Quite funny, but my only concern would be that you are using the defenders reaction on your turn, leaving the target free to act on it's turn. In effect reducing the effectiveness of the defender.

I like the way they have implemented them, a nice little hidden surprise. Not too sure about the arcana check to remove the curse, but that can be house rules as needed if it doesn't work in your campaign.
