Really good article in Dragon today about reflavouring powers, race and class features. Unfortunately it is hidden behind the paywall, but well worth the read if you are a DDI subscriber.

I am fairly certain that CO is not the way most people play D&D. In any event being able to compare CO builds with popular CB builds will give WOTC a lot more information to work from.

So far, so good - I have transferred all my campaign's characters to the new builder. A couple of crashes, but the auto-recovery means the loss of time was minimal. Houserules and custom items would be nice, but not really a deal breaker at the moment. Yes, there are some issues and bugs, but...

Unfortunately too many people are saying reduced options as in permanently not going to be there. But I do get your point. As for "soon", if Blizzard can get away with "when it is ready" why not WotC? After all, they have been burned in the past by giving deadlines and missing them.

It appears Good Old Games have signed a deal with Hasbro to release the old D&D games, the first releases being: Baldur's Gate (packaged with Tales of the Sword Coast) and Planescape: Torment. As with all GOG games DRM free and Windows XP, Vista and 7 compatible.

I am hoping for dual powersource myself, should open up some interesting design space for new classes.
