The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: Nominate the best of the rest (closed)

My top five in alphabetical order: Advanced Bestiary (Green Ronin) Book of Fiends (Green Ronin) Book of Templates (Silverthorne) Complete Book of Eldritch Might (Malhavoc) Ptolus (Malhavoc) Honourable mentions: Tomb of Abysthor (Necromancer)

The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: WotC Adventures and Locations (Winners Announced)

Wow, 17 people liked Expedition to the Ruined Partial Maps of Undermountain with a Really Dumb Backstory? There must be a fault in the poll. :) That aside, the adventures were rather a mixed bag for me. The adventure path started brilliantly with Sunless Citadel and Forge of Fury but, with the...

    2E vs 3E: 8 Years Later. A new perspective?

I certainly appreciated some of the simpler concepts. Monster stat blocks, of course, were so much easier. Coincidentally, I was also thinking about the NWP system yesterday. Sure, it was not exactly a masterpiece of design but it was simple. However, then I look at all the stupid, illogical...

FR help [My players stay out!

FR is an enormous place so, if you really want help, just narrow it down. I would be happy to type you out a whole campaign outline if I have some idea of what you're trying to achieve and where. This is the link for a FR wiki which should have a general overview of pretty much everything on...

FR help [My players stay out!

Where will your game be set? What are the characters? Do you have a general idea of the plot?

Mind Flayer vs Aboleth conflict influences Giths vs 'Thids dynamic

My first 3E campaign was based on 2E's Night Below but I also had special golems that were essentially giant rectangular gelatinous "cubes" that the aboleths were able to "wear" when they needed to leave the water. These were, of course, inspired by the navigator tanks in Dune.

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

I'm sure Rich has said that in good faith but the reality is that RSEs sell novels and novels make more money than games. The plot threads will be used up on no time, I am sure. Wasn't a similar commitment made at the time of 3E? That's my guess too and, absent a solution of this problem, in...

    Looking for Campaign Starter ideas

Ever since Conan the Barbarian was released about 25 years ago I have wanted to start a campaign by giving high-level evil characters to the players and then tell them to destroy a village. The village would be defended by significantly less powerful defenders so, hopefully, the players would...

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

I think you have hit the nail on the head here. It doesn't matter if FR4E's campaign setting is a marvellous piece of work (I think most people, according to various reviews etc..., consider the FRCS for 3E to be outstanding) because, within no time, a series of novels will come out and resolve...

    Binders vs Mummy Rot

I would be happy for the moment that the binder's player is happy that his character is useful. Later, the profound uselessness of the binder will kick in and your player will probably want to change anyway.

D&D 4E Who has rights to BoEF, and are they in on the 4e OGL

Strangely enough it was available at Border's here in Singapore (and may well still be) despite the fact that I think it may be in breach of some of the censorship laws. Anyway, I'm glad BoEF and similar products are not permitted under the existing d20 licence and also under the new licence.

    Greenwood's Forgotten Realms

I would echo that suggestion to go to candlekeep.com. Ed is asked, and answers, a lot of questions. Basically, his game never had the Time of Troubles so that is one major change from the published Realms. Also, he still uses 2nd edition. The novels Swords of Eveningstar and Sword of (something...

    Necro is IN! Planned Products

Yeah, that's the way I'm now feeling. I had no interest in 4E but I really like Necro's stuff... and I'll probably want to keep buying it so I will, most likely, end up with 4E.

    D&D 4E Goodman Games and 4E

Western fantasy? Cool. That's something I have missed.

    What is CoDZilla?

And don't forget that a 15th level druid casting control winds is going to destroy any army of almost any size arrayed against him. ;)

    variant skill list (45+ -> 24)

I've also been tinkering with my 3.5E skill list, due to the combined influence of SW:SE (Star Wars) and SW:EE (Savage Worlds). I agree with many of the changes you have made as they are similar to my own. Here is something you might like to consider as another alternative way to look at...

    Savage Worms (AoW+Savage Worlds)

Noam, I've just been looking at Dungeon 124 and considering what it would take to convert the first adventure. Fortunately, that one looks easy. Do you want to PM me with the bits you want done? Going forward there might be few issues but I think designing the right trappings for spellcasters...

    Ruined Jungle Temple and environs

Do you have the 1E adventure, Dwellers of the Forbidden City? The map of the ruined jungle city in there might be perfect for your use although it is a tad large. I love the general premise of your adventure and have made some notes for something similar of my own. However, your inclusion of...
