What ever happened to "role playing?"

They can't. The rules are very much with the players in this regard. While players can fall back on "well, I'm not charismatic myself, so I need these skills for my character", the GM is has to deal with all the shortcomings that players are immune to. Which, consequently, is why I keep a...

Do "they" exist in your world?

Pretty much what I thought when I saw it. Since then, it's become the entire basis of my Alchemy and Sorcery (Elementalism) rules. Nice stuff, that Mimir site...

    "A user-friendly d100"

Essentially, rolling 100 and 9 would be read as 9, that same as rolling 00 and 9 is now. I'm still trying to figure out if so many people are so stupid that the change was necessary. And if they're that stupid, is making something that works that same friggin' way that user friendly? Wouldn't...

    Advanced Players Guide

Oh, I'm interested, but, like most other products, I wait until I've heard a half-dozen different opinions or (less often but far more handy) someone I know gets a copy and I can look it over. The non-Epic-past-20 rules might have some things in them of interest, but I can't tell yet (being...

    Mechanic to Encourage Training

That I wouldn't know; I don't worry about level "despairity". My group tends to level up as past experiences influence them; For instance, after crossing a continent-sized jungle, most of the PCs took a level of Ranger because the skills/abilities matched what they had experienced, although one...

    Pet peeves of D&D gaming

    1. Player's that won't role-play (not to be confused with "not being good at it"). 2. Players that preach the sanctity of the Core Rules. 3. Players that rant about not being able to min/max into some monstrosity of a character. 4. Players that don't show up on time. 5. Players that live an hour...

Some questions about social situations in a game.

I don't need a die roll to tell me (or contradict) the fact that a PC's request is absolutely unrealistic. If a lord is not inclined to give help, he's not going to give it. If it isn't the villain's nature to release prisoners (particular a PC that has made himself a foe), then it ain't going...

What ever happened to "role playing?"

I've read this method before, and I gotta admit that I don't like it. It seems to change the game from improvisational to script-reading. I think the problem here would be describing the action too far; describing the action should fall just short of not being able to adjust for a fumble...

    Diplomacy - by the rules

Wow... Reminds me of The Sopranos. Very nice.

What ever happened to "role playing?"

I don't share that view. That is, the game now allows gamers that prefer that methodology to play the game easily enough; Beyond that, it's a matter of indicating what standard of role-play that a specific group desires and will use.

Do "they" exist in your world?

Physics are the rules; Magic breaks the rules. The first doesn't have to be changed to fit the second. Consider all of the books and movies that have magical things occuring in our modern day real world (Shadowrun comes to mind). The physics of the world don't change at all in these tales...

I never agreed with it, either (+1 Skill Point per level gained in Favored at my table).

    Commerce/Trade Rules

I have Empire, Magical Mideivel Society, and Fields of Blood. Thus far, I'm heavily favoring Fields of Blood, although I'm definately mining the other two for things to add in to the mix.

    fumbles in combat?

I like it nice and easy... Roll a 1, you threaten a fumble. Roll again; if the roll's a miss, you open yourself up to an Attack of Opportunity. If using a ranged weapon, I roll scatter-dice to determine the direction of the projectile, ignoring clearly silly results (like behind you)...

    training

Training for new Skills/Feats/Abilities camp. Classes and Levls are abstracts. Sorry... House rule slipped in. Jason, Achilles, and Asclepios all trained under the centaur Cheiron; Cheiron also died to allow Prometheus to bring us fire that all men would learn from his sacrifice. Cu Chullain...

Player access to the Monster Manual

Indeed, it's the best reason of all. On my own account, as a player in an Oathbound game, I had sworn off a number of books: Monsternomicon, Oathbound and all of its supplements, Into the Green and Into the Black. I did this specifically because my PC, just like me, would be new to the...

    training

Yes, Classes are an abstraction. However, these abstractions contain specifics within them: Skills, Feats, Spells, and other abilities. Not if there's already an in-game justification. Did you tell your GM you were practicing? Did you try to use Tumble at all during the game? Did you already...
