When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

Everyone keeps saying that 4E is a sales success... I don't see it. I just don't. The bookstores in my area, from mom and pop comic/rpg shops to major retailers like Borders and Barnes & Noble seem to be letting D&D vanish from the shelves. I see beat up cardboard shippers with the same five or...

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

I'm gonna quote you here, and this should blow your mind Bill... I haven't bought a single gaming related product since... Spring? Maybe? Gaming books and accessories are no longer a part of my budget whatsoever, thanks to 4th Edition. And like Jeff Wilder, I was a WotC completest for years...

    Oots 601

Yep. Killin' time. Last time we saw Haley and Celia, they were going to hold off doing anything until the saw "Pete's cleric friend...". Giant In the Playground Games

    When did 4d6-drop-lowest first appear?

As I said in my post, I "flat-out" know 4d6-lowest was around in the old days. And I played in the old days, starting around 1981. But....[big but] I never HEARD of it until 3rd Edition. So, as I said, there for a while I actually thought that Alsih2o invented the method. [I've checked my...

    When did 4d6-drop-lowest first appear?

While I know the method was, in fact, around during 1st Edition, no one I play with used it or was aware of it, or if anyone was aware of it, it was a discussion I missed. We certainly never used it. And I skipped Second Edition. So... for me, in my little gaming universe, 4d6 drop the lowest...

Does your party have a cook?

No. It's assumed that everyone has some minimum amount of life skills. It also falls under Survival to a degree.

    OotS 599 is up

Who? Roy? Who's Roy? Oh yeah. That Roy. The strip, when it is funny, is still head and shoulders over any other strip I read in pure laughs. But the angst and bazillion plot lines are wearing my patience thin.

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

Gasp! You DO know it's a bannable offense, trying to evade the word filter, right?

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

Agreed. I don't ge :):):) either. But then, I willfully fill every second of prep time I get, whether it's an hour or two weeks. :)

    Clark Peterson on 4E

No. No, that's not quite right. Tell you what, here are the major quotes, in their entirety... The first one pretty much nails his views, the rest embellish it:

    OotS 598 is up!

Love the look on Durkon's face. And out of curiosity, has there been any discussion on Therkla's alignment? I wonder what afterlife she went to. She's always struck me as Lawful Neutral, even as a bad guy hanging with Evil dudes.

Anyone else been wanting a Rules Cyclopedia HB?

Very tempting. The RC is going for $70 at NKG.

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

But lack of Rules Mastery is an invitation to a poor DM. Every DM I've played with has known the core rules better than me. Better. The splat books and 3rd party stuff, that's always been my bailiwick. But the core.... No DM I've played with has had a poor grasp of the rules.

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

All of the sudden, I've got this image of 4th Edition DMs sitting at the table with nothing in front of them but the incredible published adventures with their perfect stat-blacks, and a pile of barely browsed Core 4th Edition books behind them, barely a thumbmark on any page... No. No, that's...

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

This post, and the one prior to it that you made, confuse the heck out of me. That's a core monster feat, out of the Monster Manual, the first one, and there are what, 10 monster feats? I knew right off that bat, without looking, what Awesome Blow does, and I'm not a DM, just a guy who plays...

    Actual Greek/Roman/Egyptian/Ancient World music

Yep. Same album. Should've checked there first. You are welcome! But when you get it, make sure you watch the volume, as there are parts where you can blow out your speakers. Seriously. [Unless they've edited the album in the last 20 years.]

    Actual Greek/Roman/Egyptian/Ancient World music

See if you can pick this album up, since it appears to still be in print. I used this in several theater pieces I wrote back when I was in college in the 80s, mainly just to shock the living daylights out of people. Which was what most of my theater did. But this will literally knock you back if...

    Actual Greek/Roman/Egyptian/Ancient World music

Real Greek music is pretty darned hard on modern ears. Imagine a aficionado of chamber music from 1820 discovering modern death metal. Now, reverse the times.... The classic Greeks weren't into pan flutes and such - they believed in waking you UP. hth

    OOTS 595 up

I believe you, Imp. Completely. In fact, just the other day I was thinking of telling a buddy of mine that you had called it, but decided to let it go. Man, I really wish I'd told him now, because that would TOTALLY blow everyone's mind. :)

    Downsizing

Strangely, I don't see an issue with a large group. The group I'm in has consistently sat either seven or eight people each game since May. Games move quickly, everyone has fun. Part of it is the DM, who I've praised for years and years as having a great sense of pacing, but we sat a similar...
