Who are your favorite characters from fantasy & sci-fi stories?

Is he the one with the strange expressions? He'd have to be my favourite Doctor so far too, but I am not really familiar with Doctor Who For my own choices, off the top of my head and in no particular order: Fantasy - Roose Bolton, Davos and Syrio Forel. Mystique (From the X-Men movies at...

George RR Martin Update on his site

Not quite true. It was originally intended to be a trilogy, with the events at the end of A Storm of Swords coming at the end of the first book. Obviously there has been some significant restrcturing along the way. I hope I find out some day what he spent the past few months rewriting.

    [Nov] What are you reading?

Berserk, mostly. Also Legends II. Probably textbooks for the next few days. After that, hopefully Going Postal. There's a Pratchett signing on Tuesday, but I have an exam that day...

    Sort of legal question

16 now, 14ish when she wanted undead servants. Where does that land on the scale? Another conversation a few weeks ago - Sis: I'm Santa Clause Mum: You are not Sis: I could be! I like that thing you do with your replies.

    D&D vs. Modern

Thanks for the advice Victim. Also, I just had a look at the Bullet Points article detailing conversions, which suggested highly magical creatures should receive a +2 to +3 adjustment to challenge rating in these situations. I am going to see how that turns out.

    Non-Jedi and lightsabers

You don't even need to go to the expanded universe. In A New Hope Ben Kenobi suggests that they were once widely used - I think the quote is in this very thread. "A more civilised weapon for a more civilised age" (Perhaps not the most exactly relevant part of what he said but I have not watched...

    Demons/daemons/devils, New/Converted

Again, just posting my appreciation for your work. I had intended to wait until you were finished. But it seems like you keep adding more for yourself to do. So. May players throughout the world fear the name of Pants for years to come.

    Slaad-a-palooza!

Eat Slaad with a fork? Brilliant! Heh, sorry. Just wanted to express my appreciation for the slaad posted in this thread say thankyou to everyone who has posted them. I may not get to use all of them, but I will definately be using at least some. Especially since my setting is focused more on...

So now we can use a buckler hand to cast a spell with somatic!

Indeed. I just happen to think that the image of warrior fighting their way to victory with only a shield in each hand is a really cool image. Of course that provokes the thought of a houseruled feat to let you get an ac bonus from wielding both but. . . feh. That's just the start of a slippery...

    D&D vs. Modern

GT = Grim Tales? Does that use the same classes as Modern? Victim, am I understanding you correctly if I say that with access to D&D equipment Modern characters would have little or no problem outside their own use of magic, with the possible qualifier of 'provided they spend the feats to wear...

So now we can use a buckler hand to cast a spell with somatic!

What if you want to use a light shield in your off hand and a heavy shield in the other?

Help me nail down this 'take 10, take 20' nonsense

Well, he certainly doesn't need to be level ten to have a +10 on his check. Level+3 ranks. Skill focus is not unreasonable if he's up in the rigging everyday. That's a 4th level sailor right there, without any bonus from high strength. And I think those things were made easy to climb. DC 10...

    D&D vs. Modern

Will take a look at that classically modern thing. The site says it will be updated in a few days. I think I would agree about the MDT being a campaign trait. It makes sense to me to adjust it to the foes, since that is what the enemies have been designed to attack. Does it seem that the high...

Help me nail down this 'take 10, take 20' nonsense

Not true. It is predicated on a situation where you want to take the time to make sure you have done your best. This does not mean that a twenty is necessary, although itmight well be. To take your example, if it were, say, a rogue trying to open a lock, they might take ten. Or roll for it...

Not 50/50. You forgot to take into account the modifiers.

    D&D vs. Modern

Just a quick question about whether these could be considered balanced against each other. If, for example, someone wanted characters created from both working together, or characters from one facing foes from the other. My impression (an impression formed without experience) is that they are...

    Undersea/Flying ships, help wanted

Awesome, thanks! I will give serious thought to Mage Armour. All I could think of was Wall of Force and that seemed too high in level. First thought - how do I account for the increase in defensive capabilities this will give the ship? Handful of possibilities later, leaning towards 'there are...

    Neal Stephenson interview at Slashdot

Curiosity: For any who look at this, how many forums have you seen this interview linked to at? For me, four. (That's all I have checked. I can almost guarantee there will be links at wotmania and malazanempire, though). I'm interested in seeing how much coverage this is getting.
