The Book of Erotic Fantasy - Where did it go wrong?

I think using sex in games is fine. Sensible and well-adjusted adults allowing and all that... I just don't think it needs a huge book to cover it (by the way, I'd say the same about many aspects of games that publishers feel the need to get on the shelves too!) especially one that really...

[Star Wars] Dawn of Defiance Episode IV is out

Dungeon crawl? Really? The first episode? ... Uhm, wow. Beyond the third act, which has a map I referred to once during play and which has some detailed descriptions of rooms and occupants, I really didn't see it as dungeon crawly at all... Certainly no more than any other SW game I've...

[Star Wars] Dawn of Defiance Episode IV is out

Yep, my group has just finished episode I too. Had a blast. Were your players as shocked by the 'turn up the dial' deadliness (or perception of such) of the final fight? Mine got used to how player-friendly the game was quickly, and were staggered to face a real challenge.

D&D 4E Alignment, 4e, you, and your paladins.

Uh, I like law and chaos... No option for that?

Who are your favorite Demon Lords?

Dagon all the way... Go mythos go!

The Book of Erotic Fantasy - Where did it go wrong?

I will cite the art as bad certainly. But honestly I feel the writing was poor too. It seemed to be a unique mix of juvenile and dryly academic... Which is an achievement I guess. But the overall tone just irritated me from the introduction to wherever the heck I got to before giving up. It...

    D&D 4E New 4E Class: Gunner?

I assume that if guns don't appear in the DMG or some similar source that they'll be in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide in the form of smoke powder weapons, no? As for the class, I'm not sure... Just doesn't seem to have anything going to call it's own really.

DM Advice: handling 'he can't talk to me like that' ~cuts NPC throat~ players.

Now now, hexblades need not be evil... Anyway, while I'm a bit late to this party, I do have a suggestion. You say you're not a big stickler for alignment anyway, and having a hard time steering the players with a moral compass? So don't bother. Usually when alignment debates arise, it's in...

D&D 4E Would you buy 4E if it were not open/had no licenses for 3rd party companies?

I just look at it like this... What did the OGL really achieve? A boom/bust for a couple of years, a lot of otherwise good games shoe horned into a rules system that didn't suit them, a few genuinely good games that likely would have succeeded without being part of the OGL or in some other...

D&D 4E Would you buy 4E if it were not open/had no licenses for 3rd party companies?

In all honesty, I would prefer 4th Edition to be closed, just like I would have preferred 3rd & 3.5 Edition to have been closed. I know why everyone at WotC thought the OGL was a good idea, and I know why a lot of publishers and players like it, etc. But, end of the day, I like my D&D to be...

Turning the Tables on White Wolf - Would you trade your Exalted book for 4th Edition?

Sure, I would... In fact I kinda have done. Traded in a load of old books (EX2 included) for store credit at my FLGS for when 4th Edition arrives on the shelves.

When you want to strangle a player

Sounds to me that Mr. Bard's wife has put her foot down and said what she wants. That being the case, it really is a matter of him bringing his real life stress to the table, or just him making a mountain out of a mole hill. It honestly does sound as if D&D isn't the best fit for him in...

Running the Campagin on B/X D&D

I am intending to, and mostly it's due to the ease of rules on B/X compared to 3.5... I can tailor bits and pieces as I go. The inquisitors are easy done, still clerics after all, just dumping turn undead for counter-spell powers and having good saves against mind attacks. So otherwise no...

Running the Campagin on B/X D&D

So I finally gave in to all the ads for WotBS and checked it out. Quite nice looking, and more my pace than most games (ie: Dungeon-lite/Adventure-high) so I promptly went out and bought chapter one. Of course, a day later it became free... *shakes fist at the heavens* After I finished...

    Atonement without repentance?

The simple answer to the complex religious/moral question... Yes, he went to far and deserves reprimanding for it. But... No need to have him fall completely, just have his god deprive him of such magic for a time. His cause IS just, but his means are beyond what H'nos would normally approve...

When you want to strangle a player

It does sound like Mr. Bard has a lot on his plate in real life. But I'm not sympathetic to him bringing them to the table. As I say often enough for it to be carved in stone "We all have real life concerns, some more than others. None of them should ruin a social event like gaming." My...

    The State of Our Hobby

If us having a stronger and more unified hobby-culture means everyone has to play 4th Edition, like it's some holy grail game just because it's the new edition... Then forget it, let the hobby die. I've been interested in 4th Edition all along. I'm not as fussed lately, but mostly because my...

    Anyone else getting anti-4E spam?

Mmm, no. No cool spam. American legal advice (I'm in the UK) Online pharmacy, Viagra and penis enlargement (I'm straight-edge and single) One of the seemingly thrice-daily updates for AdventureQuest (haven't played in ages) News that my DDO subscription ran out (haven' played in ages, but...

    whats up with bargle?

I replayed that solo adventure when I finally got hold of the red box books again... I was all of 11 when I first got betrayed by Bargle! I think I was 25 when I finally put the bastard to the sword... It was deeply satisfying.

    Whither OotS?

Despite my preferences, I think it'll swap to 4th Edition within the year. Why the misgivings? Simply because 4th Edition seems to be without a lot of the cliche and game elements that makes D&D so odd at times. While it'll certainly have its own, I don't know them yet... So I hope OotS...
