    "Laming up" non-compound monster names!

Its been nearly 12 months since this thread died. It was one of my favorites on ENWorld in a long time. Since that time we've had the Monster Manual 3, Dark Sun Creature Catalog, and the Monster Vault (to name a few). As I look over these books, which of course share the new 'final' monster...

    Ancestral Relic

I'm not sure what the proper term for this is, but its a little like inherent bonuses. Most weapons gain iterative +X at certain levels. I'd just say automatically bump the item up at those levels for the character. Also, tie Divine Boons or other powers to the weapons as the heroes advance...

[WotC's recent insanity] I think I've Figured It Out

I agree with you on most of your points. The whole premise of this discussion pigeon-holes long-time gamers in a caste of unruly grognards vs. kids with no attention span. It does no service either group. I was in high school on the AOL boards back in the mid-90's. I remember being entranced...

    About the City of Greyhawk...

Where in WotC's website did you find this? And what I'm really going for are other Greyhawk maps of this quality. (I tried backtracking through WotC's site to find the articles leading up to this awesome map in order to answer this question, including search by 'Castle Greyhawk'. No success...

    Converting Monsters to Essential

I found this on the net. Its a simplification of all of that, essentially an MM on a business card: http://blogofholding.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/mm3businessfront.gif

    Class Compendium: Gone?

Perhaps its just the effect of an over-saturated market. WotC released more hardcover titles in the first 2 years of 4e than 1-3.5 editions. It seems like it might just be an oversaturated market. Did 4e really need to blow its wad so quickly? I think paring down the releases for D&D...

    Is D&D (WotC) flaming out?

Since gamers are typically the paragon of fitness......this doesn't sound that bad. Maybe it should be a GenCon staple and a half-time show for the ENies......B-) C.I.D.

    Is D&D (WotC) flaming out?

I think you were referring to my post earlier. Re: Dark Sun and Eberron, I was actually just being sarcastic. I like how both turned out. Its nice that they stuck to their 'core values'. As for FR, I personally love the RSE -- Spellplague. FR, more than all of TSR/WotC settings, was pretty...

All of this silliness aside, I'd like to turn the discussion to a debate about the merits of Pathfinder vs. the 4e Essentials books. Which is better? On a similar note, has anyone noticed that WotC is flaming out lately? Also, has anyone noticed how whenever someone asks a question about...

I'm Sorry.. i have an Essentials question

MM3, MV, yes, but don't forget the Dark Sun Creature Catalog (which is surprisingly easy to reflavor). It uses the same 'new math'. This trilogy of books pretty much runs the gamut of awesome. The DSCC has a chapter on the effects of strange weather as well. Their sunwarped creature themes for...

    Is D&D (WotC) flaming out?

I was being a little facetious in some of my earlier responses, but I respectfully disagree about the 3.0-3.5 transition. It felt much more drastic and annoying than the 4.0-Essentials transition. I felt that WotC forced me to buy the 3.5 books to stay current. The current model is much more...

I'm Sorry.. i have an Essentials question

Here's a review I found helpful before I bought all of the Essentials books. Many-Hour Review: Rules Compendium and D&D Essentials Products, Part 1 | Castles & Cooks Essentially, Essentials aims at streamlining all of the errata from the main books and making the game less of a Grind in...

Got one more for you: http://extremesaga.wikispaces.com/Setting The link takes you to a mash-up of the world from the Watchmen graphic novel and a few tidbits of the Marvel Universe. All of it was for a present day dystopian Mutants and Masterminds setting that I never got a chance to run.

    Is D&D (WotC) flaming out?

I'm also concerned about WotC's consistent reuse of product titles from the 1970's and 1980's. Rules Compendium Manual of the Planes Unearthed Arcana heck .... Player's Handbook Dungeon Master's Guide all of the monster books Why not create rather than reuse. Even, World of Warcraft is...
