    March Fourth for GM's Day!!

And just in time for players to buy their DM's copies of the player handbook 3. Though I'd prefer to get a copy of the Plane Above -- since its more DM-ey. C.I.D.

    "Laming up" non-compound monster names!

That linked website gave me some sure strange results. After clicking through a lot of generated results, the following had the most potential for new (humorous) monsters: * feyfox strangler * pigscale cursesentinel * horsetentacle poisonghost * spikebadger sentinel (actually...

    How useful is DMG2?

I think its a good book. If I had to pick only 5 books to limit my D&D collection to, as the DM, I'd choose the following: - Phb1 - DMG1 - DMG2 - Monster Manual 2 - Dungeon Delve This is the bedrock of establishing a baseline for DMing in 4e and just in general. Useful for expert and novice...

Official Rules Updates (March 02, 2010)

Wow ... quite extreme changes. It'll take awhile to figure out all the implications. It does seem that WotC is now more explicit about the socalled Expertise 'feat tax.' I had previously disallowed those sort of feats, but I might reconsider now that they're typed bonuses. I also noticed...

    "Laming up" non-compound monster names!

I don't mind portnateaus -- just not Shadowdark, Feydark, or Shadar-kai Gloomblades etc. Speaking of that here are more : - Mouthbreathing Sweatybear -- Bugbear - Whirlflurl Spinsword -- Dervish - Cunningtongue Deathlash - Mohrg ;) - Zealwing Sunprime - Solar Angel - Darktuna Deepchode...

4e DMs: Allow players a 5 minute rest after EVERY encounter?

No. I flee from standardization in 4e. Generally, when I DM, I allow short rests, but its not a given. It all depends on how smart (and organized) the enemies are. If they really want to F with the PCs they should constantly hit them in waves and then its up to the PCs to smartly figure out how...

plotting the growth of settlements for PC rulers

That's cool. I personally would give classes a way of overcoming their preconceived leadership handicaps then. I can think of many scenarios where a non-traditional commander would excel more than say a warlord. What do you think about siege equipment in 4e? I have considered drafting up a set...

What Do You Carry to a Game?

I normally host and DM from my apartment, but in the rare times when I travel for a game I carry (currently; changes based on campaign pace): - Monster Manual 2 - Revenge of the Giants - DMG 2 - DM Screen - Folio of Dungeon Tiles and Published WotC Mats (kept in a folio from the KotSf) - Dice...

    "Laming up" non-compound monster names!

I almost think this should be an ENWorld contest. The top ten entries after X duration of days could be made into a submission for WotC or something.

    "Laming up" non-compound monster names!

I don't know why, but I liked those two in particular. I actually think I could use those as kernels for future character concepts.

Dear 4e, Please Stop with the Horrible Portmanteaus!

Double hell is kind of cool for certain campaigns. I have a few dystopic and cynical 'elseworlds' or demiplanes in my cosmology (on top of a fairly serious Norse-themed cosmology) and I am seriously thinking of making a mischievous implike entity who named his realm tongue-and-cheek --...

    Manipulative personality help

Read wikipedia's entries for sociopaths. Its the personality of many criminals and dropouts, but also many successful politicians and business elite. Also since your playing a mage and a female with the manipulation thing, focus on Enchantments and Illusions. I'd also push for finding henchmen...

plotting the growth of settlements for PC rulers

Class modifiers get a little dodgy as a standardized rule, IMO. One alternative might be giving bonuses for being trained in skills like history or diplomacy? You could also have a PC attempt to improve his leadership score by making a mini-skill challenge. Possibly 4 successes vs. 3 failures...

    Somebodies got PHB3!

What are the one or two overpowered combinations in your opinion? I ask only because I have gone out of my way to avoid unpublished preview content like hybrid classes. When DM (which is normally) I tend to allow 98% of all WotC published content ... but only after I've digested the books...
