When your regular DM can't (or doesn't want) to DM for a while, how do you prefer to rotate DM duties?

We tend to play alternate games. Heck, sometimes D&D isn't even the main campaign, though it usually is. I currently but my 5E campaign on hiatus, and one of my players is running a Star Wars SAGA game. I intend to run some Shadowrun for a while when I'm ready, so who knows when we'll actually...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Missing Equipment

I don't want D&D to be particularly granular, so I mostly support cultural variations on the base armor and weapon types. But I'd still buy a product that had lengthy fluff descriptions of the variations. 5E isn't missing anything, but I would still welcome more gear. Pathfinder's Ultimate...

Mike Mearls on stuff... (Tome Show interview from GenCon)

I like what he said about expansion being based on the premise that a given campaign would allow only one publication after the PHB. It could be a setting book like Sword Coast Legends, or a thematic book, Like Heroes of Horror. Certainly, you can use more if you wish, but it's a good starting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Speculate on Pax

Announcements could happen, but I expect the biggest focus will be on promoting and discussing what they have already announced.

D&D 5E (2014) Campaign setting strategy: Would a big campaign setting guide followed by regional books be better?

Which is better will depend on the DM and the game. Personally, I might have preferred a larger scale setting book. But, I don't mind the regional approach. I think there's probably still a need for a book that is more generic to cover things like history, religion, and life in the Realms. But a...

D&D 5E (2014) So, is anyone playing 5e in Storyline Mode?

I started with Lost Mine of Phandelver, then wrote some of my own stuff from that point, with the intent of moving into Hoard of the Dragon Queen. We're now rotating to some other games for a while, and I intend to continue Hoard when we get back.

    D&D 5E (2014) Alternative Leveling Thoughts

While I don't necessarily want to have my players level more slowly all the time, I would have liked to have spent more time at about level 3. As a DM, there's a lot of great adventure opportunity and great monsters at that level. I found 5th level to be a bit awkward. All the iconic low level...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you happy with how WOTC's D&D department interacts with the fans (Frequency/ Transparency/Methods)?

I think they are well intentioned, and they make great efforts to be open about certain aspects of the game and their approach. But we are still in the dark about the OGL, and there is great uncertainty regarding the future of certain product types, such as smaller adventures or splat books...

    D&D 5E (2014) [post-Sword Coast announcement] Speculation about WotC's product release schedule

I don't see the Sword Coast book as a sign that they are moving on to another setting. Quite the opposite. What it means for the release schedule is that there is room for physical products that they think people will want. It implies nothing as to the rate we might see those products.

D&D 5E (2014) Help needed to create 5e character sheet

It's the Adobe philosophy. Why have one application where you could have two? These days, the only way to get InDesign is through a Creative Cloud subscription, anyway. The way the prices work out, as soon as you want two applications (say InDesign and Photoshop), you may as well get all of them.

D&D 5E (2014) Help needed to create 5e character sheet

When I made my playtest sheets, I used InDesign to create them, and Acrobat Pro to make them fillable. That's an expensive option, and requires some time to master the tools, but it will get you the best results. In the past, I got really good at using LibreOffice Calc. The sheets made there...

Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide: The First Official D&D 5E Setting

Only if you expect someone to own both books. Sometimes it can be worth the duplication to make each product more independently useful. This product makes sense, and I look forward to it, but I'm a little disappointed. I was hoping for something more grand.

D&D 5E (2014) How would you ensure longevity and sustainability for 5th Edition?

This isn't a bad idea. It could blend really well with my idea of migrating the focus setting every few years. A new setting starts off with a new Starter Set that includes a small setting primer, the starter set rules, and a small adventure. The Campaign Setting book or books would be the big...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is the wizards site so hard to navigate?

The site if highly focused on providing information on the current and next major events, and their related products. This is valuable, and it does it well. But it's decidedly bad at the two things that I use it for: Reading the latest articles and downloading game materials. The latest...

D&D 5E (2014) How would you ensure longevity and sustainability for 5th Edition?

The most important thing to do is to get people playing and keep them playing. Every once in a while, you can sell a major product to a large number of players, but I suspect it will be more sustainable to sell small things to active players. Miniatures, comics, dice, novels, etc. Thos doesn't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is "Mystic" a bad class name?

It's reasonable to be okay with some changes in more, but not others. Each has to be considered on its own merits. I dislike the connection to the far realms because it doesn't fit with my view of psionics. I dislike the name change because I've loved the psion/psionicist for twenty years. This...

D&D 5E (2014) How would you ensure longevity and sustainability for 5th Edition?

I think that changing the default setting for the big stories every few years can help keep the game fresh. Plus it might dramatically increase sales of each setting.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is/should be the Ranger's "thing"?

I would start with the premise that the ranger is who you want at the front of the party. Let the mechanics evolve from there.

Unearthed Arcana Psionics Hits Unearthed Arcana

All this is true. My point is that the model of Id, Ego, and Superego is really a simple one, and that the terms used would make sense to medieval scholars if the model were described to them. So I have no problem with those terms being used in psionic powers in a fantasy game.

Unearthed Arcana Psionics Hits Unearthed Arcana

I get that much, though I don't believe you speak for everyone who makes the "too science fiction claim". Personally, I've always liked that Psions have a better understanding of the world, including things like atoms, energy, and psychology. Heck, I tend to assume that wizards understand...
