    D&D 5E (2014) Must-Have's on personal DM's screen

    Lifestyle costs. I'm always forgetting.

D&D 5E (2014) A character who is not a monk, attacking unarmed strikes with or without proficiency?

Many feats grant the proficiency they depend on. They're generally intended to work for any class. Also, I believe the wizard is a class without proficiency in simple weapons.

    D&D 5E (2014) Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

Rarely, but not never. I can't recall the last time I did, but if I really wanted to drag out a fight or reward a clever player or fantastic die roll, I might.

D&D 5E (2014) Maximum Manageable Number of Players

I consider the optimal number of players per session is 3, but because people miss sessions, the optimal number for a campaign is 5. The maximum I'm comfortable with is about 7. But within any given adventure, I can only give quality focus to a few. I do prefer roleplay heavy games, which is...

D&D 5E (2014) Any reason not to let PCs add Proficiency to all Saves?

Another side effect to giving proficiency to all saves is that it will further incentivize casters to use their ability score increases on their primary casting ability rather than rounding out their abilities or taking feats. It does this on two ways. First, because low scores are increasingly...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me to Spend the Money

You have some money to spend, but you don't know what to buy. Sure, you could replace your Pathfinder Core Rulebook, but that's not exciting. You've read that one countless times. You could buy Shadowrun. I mean, it's sexy. Street Samurai slotting CorpSec, razorgirls, orc deckers, and sprawl...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you feel like the "Sorcerer" is really lacking in options?

I'll go with yes. There's room for expansion. I'm not in a hurry for it, but it's something I'd like to see at some point.

    D&D 5E (2014) What does 5E NEED

What common archetypes are these? I'm genuinely curious, because I feel the PHB provides more and broader support for character concepts than any previous edition. But I could be missing something.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are hardback AP's a waste?

I wasn't keen on Tyranny of Dragons being hardcover, because it was two shortish books. But with Elemental Evil, we're getting a single large book, so I appreciate the hardcover.

    D&D 5E (2014) What does 5E NEED

For me, the only thing the game needs right now is an updated Forgotten Realms campaign setting book. It's really frustrating trying to run a Realms campaign post Sundering. At the moment, I'm nowhere near ready for more player options such as subclasses or feats. I don't yet have a firm grip...

D&D 5E (2014) Products You Would Like to See WotC Publish For 5E

I want richly detailed campaign setting books, monster books like the Draconomicon and Book of Aberrations, and one or more books focused on campaign style, like Heroes of Battle. I have other ideas I'll post later.

D&D 5E (2014) So what exactly is Wizards working on?

The only things we know they have been working on are the story bibles for future arcs and adventures for organized play. There is probably more in the works, but they are taking an experimental approach to support, so we simply don't know what it will look like.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

Why don't you consider adventure oaths to be real content? What do you consider to be real content?

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

Yes. I don't want to have to convert. I want better production values than they had a couple decades ago. And I don't want my players to be familiar with the adventure. New adventures of the size and quality of The Lost Mine of Phandelver would be a boon for any game.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

We do have some historical evidence to work with. First, we know that a lot of product reduces return on investment over time. We also know that edition changes can fracture the player base, causing harm to the brand. Both of these suggest that the old models are flawed. We also can look at...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

If it were simply delayed profits, they wouldn't. But a slower release may cause each product to sell better over time, increasing the return on investment. WotC might make more money through diverse investment in other games rather than trying to maximize the profits of the D&D product line...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Board Game style Release Schedule

That's pretty much exactly my thoughts. At least where rules are concerned.

    D&D 5E (2014) Out of Combat Woes

I suspected this would be the case from your description of the problem. In my experience, dialog I critical to role playing. It's important that you be able to become your NPCs, so that your players can become their characters. I know there are other styles, but have personally never seen them...

Do you allow electronics at your gaming table?

It's discouraged, but not forbidden. Half of my players remote in through Skype, so I can't exactly forbid them devices. A couple keep their character sheet electronically, since they're at a computer anyway. Everyone at the actual table sticks with pencil and paper.

    GM Problems: Table Space

I use either a fold-up bookshelf or a plastic set of stacking trays that I can place next to me at the table. This holds my books, extra pens, index card box, and a dice tray on top. On the actual table, I have either the adventure I'm running or my notes open, a DM screen, and index cards...
