I'd like a system with each of the five diciplines represented by a single at-will ability, such as Telepathy or Telekinesis. There would be a single feat for each ability that anyone could take. The Psion would have all five, but specialize in one.
Power points would augment these abilities...
If the campaigns are going to be set in the Forgotten Realms, I definitely want to see that setting get strong support.
After that, I want settings that naturally branch off of the Realms. Planescape, Spelljammer, and Ravenloft are natural extensions, as are the various other settings on Toril...
Now that I've had a chance to read the full review, his major complaint is about the organization. I can see where he's coming from, but I found it pretty sensible. Perhaps calling the chapter episodes is the problem. Reading the first chapter gives a great sense of the structure of the...
Funny. I think the structure of Rise of Tiamat is awesome, though potentially challenging to pull off. It has the framework of the adventure, but leaves some of the details to the group, which I think is great.
You don't need to have specific reasons to like something. You just have to enjoy it. It's an emotional thing.
Now, if you want to discuss the elements that make up the best settings, then try to take an objective look at the Forgotten Realms to see how many it meets, that's cool. But that list...
I've reacently gotten into the realms, having read the 3rd Edition campaign setting and Elminster's Forgotten Realms. I like it. It feels rather cohesive, with a sense of history.
I almost exclusively run published campaign settings because I like the idea that my players and I have a shared...
The existence of an Adventurer's Guild really has an impact on the shape of the city. As others have said, it implies enough opportunities for adventure to support a guild, and for there to be value in joining it.
Assuming that adventurers are common, so will be a broad range of artisans, from...
1. Shadowrun
2. Savage Worlds
3. D&D/Pathfinder
4. Legend of the Five Rings
5. World of Darkness
6. Toon
Beyond this, I only have limited experience with the following: Burning Wheel, One Ring, Fate, Star Wars Saga Edition, Wushu, Cortex.
I feel like the mechanics the opposite of what I'd prefer. Your level of skill is always fully applied, but the applicability of your attribute varies.
In my mind, if being strong or agile applies to an action, it would do so in a static manner, but your incomplete skill set may or may not be...
I've heard that explanation, but it doesn't fit the modern description of close-set rivets. Still, it's best to equate studded leather to well made and moderately reinforced leather.
I agree with your assessment of bezainted armor, though. Definitely conceptually similar to ring mail.
These are both better, though you're still handing out expertise.
I'd take one more step, and remove the Telepathy requirement from Mindbender, and the suggestion ability from Telepathy as well. That way the two feats, while both psionic in nature, are completely divorced from one another...
My first thought is to give advantage on all melee spell attacks with the sword. The sword can attack without concern for being harmed, so it's like the Barbarian's reckless attack without the risk.
I'd probably up the damage a bit too.
One advantage of only regaining hit dice on a long rest is that hit dice become the sole mechanic for representing natural healing, and I like that.
I also like to imagine hit point loss as including minor injuries. I don't need fully realistic healing rules, but having recovery from hit point...
In general I like Telepathy, though it may be too good. It's clearly a defining character concept. I don't care for Mindbender, though I could see a feat meant to represent someone who is particularly skilled at influencing others.
I've been considering the same, although while leaving hit die recovery at half. I don't think there are any problems with it, so long as everyone is on board. HP recover still scales with level, but natural healing still takes a little time. It's a good rule if you want to slow the in game rate...
