D&D 5E (2014) What is best company for dice?

You're somewhat mistaken on your second point. The more a die bounces and rolls, the greater the effect of any imperfections in weight, and thus the less equally random the die becomes. But your first point is valid. The imperfections in most dice aren't enough to really matter at the table...

D&D 5E (2014) What is best company for dice?

Red dice roll faster. But if you want more crits, you need bigger dice. I have a few sets of Game Science dice, and I love them. The only thing better would be if someone were making casino quality machined gaming dice.

D&D 5E (2014) How Much Lore is Enough?

It's clear that tastes vary. My problem with the Monster Manual is that there isn't enough lore. I'd prefer something like the Iron Kingdoms Monsternomicon with a minimum two page spread for every monster.

D&D 5E (2014) Would you rebuy all the books if they were updated?

I can't imagine ever getting rid of an old RPG book. Which explains why I'm out of shelf space. Something I think would be cool is to rerelease the PHB with new trade dress and art every five years. These anniversary special editions would never be required, but would be a neat collectors item...

D&D 5E (2014) Would you rebuy all the books if they were updated?

Only for the PHB, and only on occasion. I've found it handy in the past to have extra core rulebooks for games. So, picking up a modestly updated copy of the PHB in a few years isn't a problem. Future printings should definitely fix typos and clear up poorly worded rules. If actual changes to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Amazon or Local?

I have a nearby comic store that has been cautiously expanding in to games. I order and buy through them to encourage their growth. Their the only friendly store around. If they ever start restricting the tables or wrapping their books in plastic, like some stores I've seen, I'll start buying...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does 5E NEED a campaign world book?

I want stunning 400 page tombs for each of the classic settings, either updated for 5E, or entirely system neutral. I'll buy every damn one.

D&D 5E (2014) When is the FR campaign book coming out?

We know they were working with Ed Greenwood to build a world bible for internal use, but that's about all we know.

D&D 5E (2014) Evil parties that don't fall apart: ideas, suggestions, experiences?

Here's how I would approach it, and it ties nicely into the traits, bonds, and flaws. Give the characters a powerful shared history that bonds them together. Perhaps they served together in an evil hoard, are part of a longstanding faction, or are even related by blood. Whatever the reason...

    D&D 5E (2014) Battlemats?

I voted "maybe", but by that I mean "sometimes". I haven't used one yet, but not because I'm opposed. I play in a situation where some players are physically present, and some are remoting in through Skype. So, while I can use Roll20 for maps, it's a little more difficult than normal, so I've...

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview: Intellect Devourer

It occurs to me that the MM doesn't have a visual scale reference for each monster like some bestiaries do. For example, the Monsternomicon has a silhouette of the monster standing next to the silhouette of a man so show the relative size. This makes me a little sad.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e as an universal gaming engine ?

1, 2, and 3 are good universal concepts. The d20 mechanic itself actually limits the system's usability outside of D&D, at least for my tastes. I tend to prefer dice step or pool systems. Replacing the d20 with 2d10 or 3d6 would suit my tastes better.

    D&D 5E (2014) Lost wagon of Phandelver

I also had absent player characters guard the wagon. The wagon that's actually causing a little trouble is the one that originally held the supplies that are stored away in Cragmaw Hideout. My players currently believe that the goblins took it to Cragmaw Castle, and that following the wagon...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e as an universal gaming engine ?

I certainly wouldn't like 5E as a universal system (I'll stick with Savage Worlds for that), but there is some room for it to be used for other fantastical settings.

D&D 5E (2014) Would you buy an updated PHB every year?

Yes and No. I appriciate that they want to keep tabs on how people feel about the rules, and possibly make changes. And I definitely feel that any changes that are made should make it into future printings. I don't even have a problem with picking up an updated PHB every few years. But only the...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you think a psychic class should look like in 5e?

There are two potentially defining elements of psionics in D&D. Power Points and the psionic attacks/defenses. The latter never really worked well, but we shouldn't forget about them. In most editions, powers cost power points to manifest, but additional points could be used to augment. I think...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you think a psychic class should look like in 5e?

This is the rough direction I've long thought was good as well. The big questions, in my mind, involve how you gain and store power points. Back when the Fighter's superiority dice were a round by round resource, I thought Power Points could work like that. Still could, I suppose. They could be...

    Variant Skill System 5e

Of course you could spend points on martial weapon groups, making it useful for the majority of classes. Plus, weapon groups essentially become skills, allowing groups to use a single pool of skill points across weapons, skills, saves, tools, etc. It's how most non-d20 games work, and I've been...

    D&D 5E (2014) Neuroglyph's "30 Minutes with Mike Mearls" Interview

What I found most interesting was the talk about PDFs. It sounds like they have ideas of what they'd like to do, but no solid plans. In fact, that seems to describe much of the future of the edition. They're taking a slow, deliberate approach to whatever they do.

Mixing tabletop and remote players in a game

I run a game with Skype, where half my players are present in the room, and half remote in. It can work well, but there are some caviats. First, it's best to avoid using battle maps when you don't need them. If you have a large enough screen to share with the table, Roll20 can work, but using...
