Modular Setting and House Rules: Feedback Requested

Adjusting the length of short and long rests is certainly one way to go about it. Personally, I like the length of rests, so I would alter how much you recover on a long rest. Here are some other takes on the subject. Hit Dice Recovery Only: When you take a long rest, you regain no hit points...

    D&D 5E (2014) PHB first look

I'm not sure if that's true or not. And as a counter to my own argument before, I suspect people will refer to the full game as advanced any time they wish to separate it from basic. But your basic point is reasonable. The PHB is D&D, and in most contexts, that's how people will think of it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Scaling Phandelver for 6 PCs

Well, the goal is for the monster to live a little longer, and to engage with more people so that they all feel the threat. So, if you want to stay with a single creature, you may want to give it an extra attack, or extra area spells. Not a lot, but enough to feel a touch more threatening...

    D&D 5E (2014) Scaling Phandelver for 6 PCs

I probably wouldn't touch the AC, but increasing the hit points would go a long way. You could also throw in an additional monster somehow. Perhaps give the Nothic a pet. If you can find a way to split the party, that would also work.

    D&D 5E (2014) PHB first look

When Mearls described the plan for basic, standard, and advanced, The PHB represented standard. Basic was a subset thereof, and Advanced was the various rules modules that we now know are part of the DMG. It seems sensible to continue to use that pattern. Which also means we don't have the...

    Character Sheet Feedback

Now that the PHB is out, I'm getting ready to update this sheet to the final game. In order to do that, I'm calling for help finding things that are missing or incorrect. Here's a list of what I've found so far: No section for traits Missing Passive Perception Missing Temporary Hit Points...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's your preferred "Splat Frequency"?

I'd essentially like to see one player book, one DM book, and a two or three setting books per year.

    D&D desktop Wallpapers - no 4K?

I agree. I was nearly ready to buy this year, but then Gsync became a thing, so now I'm holding out for a Gsync capable 4k monitor. Next year looks likely.

    D&D desktop Wallpapers - no 4K?

Only a very small portion of the population has a 4K screen. I, for one, am galled that Wizards of the Coast would be so inconsiderate of minorities.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is the "Dungeons & Dragons" label so discreet in 5E?

It's worth noting that by using the smaller, lower contrast D&D at the top, it lets the book's actual title be the most prominent element.

D&D 5E (2014) What's one thing that pleasantly surprised you, and one thing that disappointed you about the PHB?

Pleasant Surprise: Most classes have multiple pieces of art with different takes on the class. Disappointment: Drizzt as the iconic elf, and the sheer number of drow in the art and references to Drizzt in the text.

    D&D 5E (2014) spells in 5.0

Fifth Edition took a lot of inspiration from every edition. But the various ideas weren't just kludged together. This edition has its own framework, and those borrowed concepts were used to inspire new mechanics inside the new framework. While, on the surface, it most resembles Third Edition...

    D&D 5E (2014) Quirks & Exploits

The rational behind sneak attack seems to be that a target can't as effectively defend itself against the rogue and another attacker. So, any attacking pets would count. In the case of a mount, such as a warhorse, I think I would consider the mount and rider to be a single entity for the...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Cosmology

They don't go into detail, but they do mention that fantasy worlds are part of the Material Plane, and they don't mention alternative material planes. So I'm thinking the default assumption is multiple planets in space.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Cosmology

While they may not be viewed as border planes, their orientation on the map lends credence to the idea that they are somehow related to the positive and negative energy planes. And thematically, that makes sense.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Cosmology

I have the PHB now, so I can answer some of these questions. The elemental planes are described using a sea as a metaphor. On the shore, where an elemental plane meets the Material Plane, it resembles the material plane with strong elemental elements. The further you get from the Material...

D&D 5E (2014) Splatbooks in 5E, way or no way?

The most valuable thing the development team can do it so plan far ahead. They should consider what a complete D&D 5E collection will look like in 5 years, and what that shelf will look like to a new player. Each book should be a major event, and I'd be all for one or two per year, each being a...

    D&D 5E (2014) GaleForce 9 Preview Video

I like the idea of the spell cards, but I'd prefer to just buy one set with every spell in the PHB. That said, my love of index cards knows no bounds, so I'll probably create a spell card template to be printed on one side of a 3x5 card.

D&D 5E (2014) Review of New Players Handbook Posted at Acts of Geek...

It's worth noting that the previews were written by Barack Blackburn, whereas the review was written by Michael Gendreau. So the opinions are going to differ.

    D&D 5E (2014) A few thoughts on 5E.

These concerns seem to come from someone who played high level spell casters in 3.5. I did the same, but I've come to recognize that most people didn't play a lot of high level D&D in 3.5, and spell casters were the primary reason. I've never played high level campaigns as anything but a wizard...
