    D&D 5E (2014) Question about art

The rules for crafting are simply tools for adjudication. The DM can, and should stray from them where it makes sense. A more straightforward example: Engraving does not generally have a material cost, but would still increase the value of the engraved object. In some cases, like sculpture or...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Psionics and Mystics Take Two

I wouldn't make the assumption that they are focusing on the mechanics more than the fluff. In fact, if they are, it's only because they are satisfied with the fluff. That's how ask these playtests have worked. If you don't limit the fluff, make noise about it now.

D&D 5E (2014) New survey is up, asks about the kits and about who you are

The previous survey results seem to reflect what I saw in threads here. New and interesting subclasses are generally popular, whereas opinions on Prestige Classes are mixed. Actually, they were more mixed than I expected. Something I've noticed is that they seem very reluctant to create new...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why 19 not 20?

Tradition, mostly. Personally, I wish ability score increases were capped at 18, for much the same reason.

DMs Guild Stat Blocks the OGL, SRD, and DMs Guild: A question

I don't know if the Dungeon Master's Guild lets you copy trade dress or not, but the OGL does not. So, the layout for the Stat Block is opened up by the OGL, but the visual styling, or trade dress, from the PHB/Monster Manual is not. Basically, don't copy the red, tapered bars. You probably...

    D&D 5E (2014) Have you bought any (non DM's Guild] 3rd party 5E products?

The Dungeon Master's Guild is a program by Wizards of the Coast for fan and third party generated content. By following some rules and only publish in PDF form on their site, content creators may use a wide swath of Wizard's copyrighted material in their own products. En5sider is a publication...

    D&D 5E (2014) Shadowfell - reading material?

The Neverwinter Campaign setting from 4E has some interesting Shadowfell stuff as well, though most of it's focused on the places and plots from that book.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Psionics and Mystics Take Two

I suspect we'll see a Wild Talent feat that grants you a psionic talent. Seems straightforward.

    D&D 5E (2014) Have you bought any (non DM's Guild] 3rd party 5E products?

I'm an en5ider subscriber, plus I've picked up a few of the Fifth Edition Fantasy Adventures and plan to pick up more. I'm usually fairly slow to pick up anything third party, but that's changing some. Particularly when it comes to adventures. Though I'd happily buy an updated Traps and Treachery.

D&D 5E (2014) Teleportation circles costs *how* much?!

It would have to be situational. An expert wouldn't fall for it, but you could probably convince a goblin that it was legitimate. But, no, it wouldn't work for the price of a material component.

D&D 5E (2014) Teleportation circles costs *how* much?!

The very wealthy will build teleportation circles, simply for the fact that they can hire a wizard to teleport them to other places instantly. It's like having a private jet, only faster.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dirty Secrets?

My dirtiest secret is that none of those details existed until you asked about them.

January 2016 Sage Advice - All About AC

Sage Advice is much like case studies in law. There are the rules of the game, and there is Sage Advice, which attempts to be a consistent interpretation of the rules, useful when attempting to make future rulings. But Sage Advice rulings are not official rules. Even when he says "official...

January 2016 Sage Advice - All About AC

I really like how he revisited past rulings, not because I like or dislike the changes, but because it reinforces the idea that Sage Advice is merely an attempt at creating a consistent set of rulings. The ruling are intended to invoke design intent, and to be internally consistent, but they...

    D&D 5E (2014) Future 5th Edition books you'd *like* to see?

In no particular order: Additional Monster Manuals (themed by monster type, with more fluff) Planescape Campaign Setting Spelljammer Campaign Setting Encyclopedia Magicka Unearthed Arcana (A collection of optional rules, psionics, new backgrounds, subclasses, feats and the like) Shorter...

    EN5ider & The OGL & You

I've been really happy with en5ider. If you haven't checked it out, I recommend it. The stat block news is welcomed.

D&D 5E (2014) How do the races breed?

I tend to assume the races can't interbreed except for half-elves and half-orcs. Though I imagine elves and orcs may be able to as well. Dragonborn lay eggs, I believe, so there will be no interbreeding there.
