    What 5e got wrong

I think there's a fair argument for each of these, though some, like format & layout are more of a slight miss than an abject failure. I agree that the encounter building rules could have used another writing pass. It was a mistake to use the term Challenge Rating. It sets the wrong...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are solo monsters weaker in 5e?

I think it was a mistake to use the term Challenge Rating, when that's not really what it represents. It's more of a Threat Rating. The number doesn't mean it will be a challenge to a party of a given level, but that it presents a credible risk of character death or other permanent damage. For...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your preferred level of play?

I haven't been a player, but as a DM, I really enjoy 1-4. I've always been more interested in the lower level monsters, and I like the more dangerous feel. Level 3 was particularly solid. When the players hit 5th level, I struggled to find encounters that interested me.

Unearthed Arcana New Year Unearthed Arcana Brings Back Those Old 2E Kits

I think it's because the Battlemaster appeals to the kind of player who prefers a more granular method of character creation. Most classes are made up of broad strokes (excluding spells), but the Battlemaster subclass is made up of a bunch of small choices that add up to a theme. So, the...

D&D 5E (2014) What PC does Huge DPS in your party ?

It's worth noting that if his ability score is already 20, and he already has Sharpshooter, and he already has an awesome +2 magic item, then his power from abilities, feats, and weapons is essentially maxed out. He won't grow in power as fast as the rest of the party, so things will even out again.

    D&D 5E (2014) December Survey is Up

I did notice that, but being December, they may not have finished going through those results, or they simply might not have had anyone in the office to write up the post.

    D&D 5E (2014) December Survey is Up

I was very clear in the survey that I think prestige classes should be left out of fifth edition entirely, in favor of subclasses and feats. But I love the basic concept of rune magic. Though I suppose the mechanics could work for any magic item. There's nothing particularly runish about them.

D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Master Guide errata clarification?

You are correct. Two similar effects stack so long as they don't come from two sources with the same name. In your example, the ring of valor +3 and the top hat of Ares +4 stack for a total of +7. If you then put a ring of valor +5 on a different finger, it would override the weaker version, so...

    D&D 5E (2014) 215 D&D 5E Character Sheets!

I enjoy character sheet design. The key is knowing what your priorities are going in. You'll never create a sheet that everyone loves, but you can create a sheet that does a great job at fulfilling a purpose. During the playtest, I created this sheet...

    D&D 5E (2014) Errata for MM & DMG?

I agree, but I think the errata specifically represents changes made to the latest printing, so the format follows that. Still, it could have been written more clearly.

    D&D 5E (2014) Nostrodomus: Predict Five Things about D&D in 2016

We will get a couple new storylines, but at least one of the adventures won't be a levels 1-15 behemoth. A second Monster Manual looks likely. I believe this is the year that they discover that most groups aren't able to consume the large adventures at the rate they are being released, leading...

    D&D 5E (2014) Brand Vs RPG

Personally, there have been few D&D products released that I want that aren't the RPG, but not because I'm opposed to them. Just that few of them are something I want. I don't play MMOs. I was really looking forward to Sword Coast Legends, but that turned out poorly. I'm not interested in the...

D&D 5E (2014) Best way to order abilities?

I prefer the way the new school order separates physical and mental ability scores. That's all.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you currently happy with Dragon+?

I find it disappointing, though not terrible. The best thing about Dragon and Dungeon magazines was that it was a playground for creative concepts with official backing but less authority than a book. Sure, I like interviews and promotions well enough, but those were the garnish. Nice to have...

D&D 5E (2014) Cragmaw Castle (possible LMoP spoilers)

I'd love to have a drawn or painted image of Cragmaw Castle, and some of the other locations in the adventure. I hope it becomes enough of a classic to get that kind of fan treatment.

See DRAGON+ On Your Desktop PC

Actually, it's fairly common, particularly on mobile, as a way to keep accidental text selection from preventing the expected scroll or interaction behavior of an element. It was probably styled this way to fix a bug. It's anecdotal, but I've never been asked to apply this style for any kind of...

D&D 5E (2014) Do LEVELS Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

I have run and played in games where the PCs knew they were D&D characters. In those games, level has meaning, and we would criticize NPCs for taking levels in commoner.

D&D 5E (2014) Do LEVELS Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

Class Levels: No. Spell Levels: Yes. Sure, a higher level character would be recognized as more skilled or powerful than a lower level character, but the actual levels don't exist. Spell levels, though, are something that spellcasters would come up with. We usually use the term "order", but it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best 5E Adventure?

I own all of the official adventures, and some unofficial, but I've only run Lost Mine. It was great though. I like to run a variety of RPGs, and have only a few hours a week to play, so the storyline adventures are a daunting time investment for me.

D&D 5E (2014) What settings would you like to see full support for?

The poll asks about "lots" of support, so I picked Forgotten Realms, even if it isn't my preferred setting. I'm comfortable with the Realms getting tons of detail. Whereas some of the other settings, such as Planescape, Spelljammer, and Grayhawk, would be best served by a small number of high...
