    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition character generator

Was there a deal with Hero Lab? I seem to remember something. I don't feel the need with 5e, so I haven't kept track.

D&D 5E (2014) Ring of Cold Resistance vs Ring of Warmth

It is a little silly, but I do enjoy creating explanations for why. Perhaps a Ring of Resistance works on a fundamentally different principle. It weakens an elemental construct directly, granting resistance. But, in the case of cold damage, there is a simpler solution, which is simply to warm...

Sword Coast Legends Survey; Plus Ranger Feedback Results!

You and I are quite opposite in this regard. I keep a usable gaming rig, and I pretty much refuse to buy any PC game that isn't integrated with Steam.

Sword Coast Legends Survey; Plus Ranger Feedback Results!

I think the Ranger needs to get more of its features from its subclasses than other classes do. The base class has all the wilderness survival stuff and little else. One subclass gets druid spells, one gets fighter maneuvers, and one gets a powerful animal companion.

D&D 5E (2014) Do Classes Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

They exist a little bit. The distinction between a wizard and sorcerer is recognized. A fighter might be called such in context of their roll in the party. But the concept of class doesn't exist outside the mechanics. Asking what someone's class is would be nonsense, but asking someone if they...

D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with rogue solo burglaring in town

I like the table above s as a start. The carousing table is good for inspiration. Roll a percentile die and add your level. Some other possible entries: You steal an secret scroll, a confidential message, or somehow learn a secret that someone would kill to keep hidden. You fall off a roof...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best Parts of SCAG

I like how it ties each subclass to the setting. I also like how each class section used whatever structure it needed instead of some bid for symmetry.

D&D 5E (2014) How badly did Sword Coast Legends damage the brand?

It does hurt the brand, just not the RPG portion of it. Sword Coast Legends reinforces the idea that D&D video games aren't good. Just like the DungeonScape failure reinforces the idea that Wizards of the Coast is bad at anything digital. 5E is good, and I'd selling well. But the other...

D&D 5E (2014) I just don't see why they even bothered with the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide.

It is a book for players who are relatively new to the Realms. They might be new D&D players, or they simply may not have played in the Realms before, or at least never payed much attention to it. For them, the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide provides a solid setting primer and some fluff and...

    [EN5ider #46] Motivated Encounters

Straightforward, useful, and interesting. This is a fantastic article.

    Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide

4 out of 5 rating for Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide The Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide is a player focused introduction to the Realms with a lot of flavor, the right amount of detail for a player, and a light amount of additional crunch. It fills it's role perfectly. I particularly like the...

D&D 5E (2014) How much space (pages) does a spell use up in a Wizard's spellbook in 5th edition?

Huh, you're right. It doesn't say. I'd say, choose from one of the following: A spellbook is large enough to hold all of your spells forever A spell takes one page A spell takes one page per level Personally, I'd go with either the first or the last. I either don't want to worry about it at...

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

Close Quarters Shooter feels like power creep. It's the obvious choice for anyone with a ranged weapon because most combat happens within 30 feet. It would be a solid beginning of an ability, but it's too similar to existing feats. Tunnel Fighter is cool and evocative, but there should probably...

D&D 5E (2014) Any info on next release?

Heck, they could even work with Paizo. There are options. Plus, we don't know if the current pace of story lines will continue. They could drop down to one per year if they discover that groups aren't keeping up. Or focus on a product for those that write their own adventures. My point is...

    D&D 5E (2014) One-Stop Stat Blocks for D&D 5th Edition

You are reminding of the great Combat as Sport vs Combat as War thread from a couple years back. Many players don't approach combat in D&D as a game you get good at. They will go to great lengths to avoid taking part in combat that is an actual challenge.

    D&D 5E (2014) One-Stop Stat Blocks for D&D 5th Edition

To an extent, this is probably exactly what they do. 5E is not built around expert players looking for tactical challenges like, say, 4E was. Which is fine. It's just important to know that if that's what you are looking for.

Mike Schley's MASSIVE Forgotten Realms Map From SCAG!

They may actually be closer to equal from a scale perspective, as this map is just the northwest corner of Ferun.

D&D 5E (2014) The Official Poll! What THREE things do you like most about D&D 5th Edition?

I wish "simplicity/light rules" wasn't on this list, because it's kindof a catchall for many smaller pieces, and it would be far more interesting too see which simplifications people are most keen on.

D&D 5E (2014) Adventure Design: Backstory and History

I've always referred to them as inline headings, and you're right. they're very useful. I like using lists for significant descriptive details, though I still always start with a one or two sentence base description. Gus the Bartender: A portly, affable human who knows many things, even if...

    D&D 5E (2014) Form-Fillable Monster PDF

Good work. I like that it does a little auto-calculation. I released a similar pdf a while ago. I use them extensively. Mine are intended to be printed on a 3x5 card, which is great if your printer can do that.
