    Character Deaths

Our 2nd ed game was played pretty fast & loose, we had so many odd character deaths I can barely remember them. This happened to a friend of mine, the reformed thief/assassin turned cleric... We're in the absolute middle of nowhere, looking for some lost ruins. Just as we find it, a massive red...

Comparison: Strongholds & Dynasties - Empire - Magical Medieval Society - Birthright

I've got Dynasties. It's more a guide book for running politically-themed campaigns; it doesn't really have much in the way of mass combat or political systems rules. What your typical "Quintissential X" book is to class X, Dynasties is to politics. There's the usual feats, prestige classes...

Skull and Bones Campaign Help - Mind's Eyers Keep Out

Well, it's not quite Spain, but there's a certain chapel outside of Lisbon that could house the skulls: http://www.peterlyons.com/photogallery.pl?gallery=portugal&picture=evora_bones It's constructed from the bones of 5,000+ people, who'd notice a few more skulls?

    Campaign Idea: Island-Hopping, Swashbuckling Fun!

Well, obviously you've got the most recent Dragon issue- why not make use of some of the other articles? You could have the castle of a powerful vampire (Strahd with a different name) on one mist-shrouded island. A desert island could be home to a powerful sha'ir, who keeps the treasue in a...

    Help needed. Oneshot advice wanted.

Well, I don't have any specific modules in mind, but I'd save Dungeonland for what you're going to be doing on your own. It's got a lot of weird stuff in it, both for the PCs to get and for the PCs to endure. It might not sit well in the campaign if you're just doing a "guest shot". There's a...

Skull and Bones Campaign Help - Mind's Eyers Keep Out

Hmm, pirate-type ideas... We've already covered the obvious "capture the skull from a ship" angle. Other possible locations for the skull are the Spanish fort (or perhaps a mission where the priests are keeping it safe), buried as part of a pirate's treasure (preferably in a cursed swamp full...

    Eberron isn't Steampunk

Actually, from the artwork & some of the write-up, what it reminds me most of is the Elder Scrolls games, such as Morrowind. Except for the trains, of course. As for high-tech fantasy, something like Final Fantasy would probably be closest. But, now we have a name for this- "non-Steampunk!" :p

Caster Level for Demons and Devils Summoning

First off, I assume this is for dispelling purposes, yes? I can think of two ways to go... 1. Use the minimum caster level for the ability listed. For instance, I think a Herezou's ability is listed at 4th spell level, so that would be caster level 7. This will probably make the abilities...

    backwards conversion (psionics)

Well, I did some Dark Sun and Planescape under 2nd Ed as a player. Here's my thoughts based on that: I agree with Ciaran that the powers don't really scale well. It can fall one of two ways: either the peson doesn't really know what they're doing, and the character can never do anything, or...

Unreal II: The Awakening - Special Edition

How is the single-version aspect of the game? I never played the original one, I just played the Tournament variant. Would you think it's as good as something like Half-Life or System Shock?

    Ramsey Campbell recommendations?

I'm a big fan of Ramsey Campbell. I mostly read short stories, since I don't seem to have the time for novels anymore. The one novel of his I read was "Midnight Sun"- it was good, but a little slow. It goes more for a sense of alien strangeness than actual horror. (To be honest, I really only...

    The "Favorite Simpsons Quotes" thread.

Ah, so many good quotes. I'll just stick with something I've seen recently... (Fat Tony and his gang are hanging around in the Simpson's yard. Tony does a Godfather routine for the guys, where he puts an orange peel in his mouth and growls at them). Mobster: That's great! I could wack my own...

    When good roleplayers rebel...

I side strongly with Dirgible on this one. Drop the hunt-the-artifact plot and go with the attack on the bad guy. In the long run, you'll get far more mileage out of a nice blood-and-guts revenge story than you will out of a typical dungeon with traps guarding some treasure or other. Even if if...

    Kurosawa's Ran

Anyone looking to catch these movies should start checking cable listings. IFC has been doing "Samurai Saturdays" for a while now, I've seen Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Hidden Fortress and Throne of Blood on those days. TCM has also started showing some. I think all of this is due to the Kill...

    Question (i.e. HELP)

A lot of the dragons have acces to clerical domains as part of their innate spellcasting. Never really been sure why, or whether these spells count as divine, or come out of their daily allotment or are seperate... Anyhow, a sorcerer who is much closer to the "blood of the dragons" could...

    Eliminating stat items

Sounds cool, thanks for the verification. I've gotten sort of tired of the computer RPG style buffing, and I'm thinking about seriously scaling back the magic items in my next campaign. Still using a fairly high-level of magic, just not nearly as many "gizmos". Getting rid of stat items was on...

    Eliminating stat items

I like the concept, but I'm not understanding the numbers. Are the scores under 18 using the DMG point-buy costs? I'm almost positive that those go higher than 12 for the upper-end stats. Or are these points what the new level costs; for example, does going from 18 to 19 cost 6 points?

Is the module for any particular setting, or is it generic?

Running dungeons with high level PCs (my players don't read - and yes, I'll know!)

Well, I've never read or run the RA module. So I have no idea what it might contain. But here's some thoughts based on experiences with other high-level groups in dungeons. Like you said, the environment is not really an obstacle an longer. So, in some sense, the "classic dungeon crawl" feel...

    Call of Cthulhu, Greyhound style

HAve you got a link to the article? Just thought of this: Reality Show, as in Road Rules or whatever. They have to stay on the trip to collect the prize. And of course, the amount of monsters/cult weirdness on the way gives "Survivor" a whole new meaning. Maybe they even have to worry about...
