I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that the solution V. just used occurred to me as soon as I read #423 -- though I failed to see the rationale for using scrolls.
I'd say that "psionics" is a euphemism for "magic", used in SF settings. "Doc" Smith's Lensmen have amazing powers because of their mastery of their own minds, D&D paladins can cast spells because of their dedication to Lawful Good; the basic idea is pretty much the same.
Not really -- Apple handled the transition to Intel really well, IMHO. If you used any Classic apps, it'll take a little work to run them on an Intel Mac (this MacOSXHints thread should help); otherwise, there's not much to think about.
The most demanding Windows game I've tried on my MBP (one...
I sold most of my RPG library, including all my 3E books, a few years ago. I hadn't done much gaming in a long time and was about to move cross-country to start grad school.
As I'd expected, I don't have as much spare time as I once did, but I've also had occasion to replace those D&D books...
I could see entertaning differences of opinion between treants and druids over mistletoe. To the druids, it's a sacred plant; to the treants, it's irritating and unsightly (I like Set's comparison to athlete's foot, but that's not as visible... so maybe mistletoe is like a cross between...
When some people think of the FF, they think of flumphs and flail snails. Others think of gith and slaadi. It's kind of like the half-full/half-empty cup.
I think that if I were the DM, Miko would have gotten a couple of memos from the gods by now. "Please review the 'Justice vs. Vengeance' section of your employee handbook, and do be aware that disciplinary action will be required if..."
Yep, "A Plethora of Paladins." It was in issue 106, way back in 1e days. I haven't been able to find a 3e conversion of the Parmander anywhere, but this old thread on another forum might give you some ideas.
I've never been in a 1e game that used UA, but on paper, the UA barbarian strikes me as the extreme case of 1e's approach to balance. On the one hand, they have lots and lots of bonuses and special abilities; on the other, they have ability-score requirements that aren't trivial to get by...
I write with my left hand, but use scissors with my right -- by the time my parents thought to buy me left-handed scissors, I'd learned how to use the other kind. ;)
Returning to topic, the reversed hands are a special effect -- a way to unsettle PC's, and maybe a way for PC's to identify...
A subplot in which a demon poses as a paladin's ally to corrupt him could be interesting, if the player likes the idea, but the RAW make it hard to pull off. Sooner or later, the paladin's detect evil ability should see through the act.
There's colorized Yamara? And Yamara I've never read!! Thanks, Piratecat! :D
And, um, I'd just taken them as representatives of Lawful, Neutral, and Chaotic Evil, but if you're onto something, the implications are staggering... ;)
