    OotS #371

I continue to hope that Miko will be less unfun as a blackguard than she was as a paladin.

    Bronze Weapons

Perhaps the person you talked to was thinking of arsenic bronze? "Regular" bronze is an alloy of copper and tin, but arsenic can be used instead of tin (and was used first). I don't know what exactly exposure to arsenic bronze would to do a person, but suspect that smiths would be most...

What if real life was like D&D?

Office conversations would include statements like "I'm just not getting anywhere on this project. Maybe I should go kill some orcs."

    OoTS 355

If the fanbase comes to the conclusion that she's not dead, will Rich have to kill her? ;)

    What's the Deal with GriefCom?

There may have been a change in the terms of the Ravenloft license somewhere along the way -- the covers I've seen have WW's "Sword and Sorcery" logo and "v. 3.5 Core Campaign Setting", with "Dungeons and Dragons" nowhere obvious. Maybe it has something to do with the changes to the d20 license...

Your favorite reverse-cliche character type (or other game element)?

In the 2e days, I once played a halfling bard inspired by Porthos of the Three Musketeers. With 3e halflings, though, a womanizing swashbuckler isn't so big a deal anymore.

    New Dwarven Favoured Class?

I'm not quite sure why, really (maybe it's the Viking ambience Herobizkit pointed out) but I really like the idea of dwarven berserkers. A lot of dwarves in the homebrew setting I may get to run a game in someday are Fighter/Barbarians; my dwarves are known for discipline in battle, and feared...

How fast should magical power return to a caster?

I'm still not up on 4th edition GURPS yet, but 3rd edition qualified -- "fatigue points" doubled as spell points, and a desparate caster could burn hit points to power their spells. There's also an unofficial variant called "Unlimited Mana", which lets spellcasters do amazing things if they're...

Remind me again why I should like the PHB II?

But surely the correct answer is also the obvious one -- "I tell Mr. Who-Is-This-Guy 'You don't," and then disintegrate Mr. Evil Warlord"? ;)

    Code-name: "The Goblin Game"

Agreed. I remember several companies trying similar things in response to the effect that the rise of online gaming was having on the PBM industry, but I don't remember any of them lasting all that long. I'd love to see the return of big turn-based strategy games, but it seems an odd thing for...

Best Adventure Idea EVER! (Snakes! On a plane!)

And after the airship, how about an alternate Prime Material?

    Bicycles in YOUR campaign setting!

"Dirt ruts" pretty well describes the roads people rode early bicycles on -- in fact, a lot of road improvements and paving were actually spurred on by cyclists who wanted a smoother ride.

    Walpurgis U. is so geeky…

I'd start by flipping through Charles Fort's books. A lot of the weird things he compiles in them were reported in newspapers from the era you're looking at, which is another plus. Also, since you don't mention it -- have you read GURPS Illuminati University? It's set in the present day, more...

    1st Edition Rangers in 3.x E?

My experience was that the damage bonus was the defining feature of the 1E ranger. "Giant-class" included most humanoids, from kobolds and goblins on up, so the bonus came into play often, and since it always equalled the ranger's level, it kept increasing.

Campaign idea - Controlling a million zombies

Isn't there an old necromancers' chantey on the subject? "What d'ye do with a million zombies, what d'ye do with a million zombies, what d'ye do with a million zombies, Early in the campaign? Reign by terror 'til the clerics stop ye..." (etc.)

How to PCs carry all their stuff?

For an interesting comparison, take a look at http://www.thedonovan.com/archives/modernwarriorload/ModernWarriorsCombatLoadReport.pdf -- it's a US Army report on what infantry soldiers carried in Afghanistan in 2003. The most useful lesson for D&D characters may be that you should arrange your...
