    Gnome haters? It's Lockwood's fault!

I don't know... the Illusionist/Thief option (and everyone I ever saw play a gnome took it) made them tricksters. Not a niche you necessarily want filled in your party, but I'd count it as a niche.

    Vote on current OotS storyline

I don't exactly have a problem with the storyline, but I do find Miko a lot less fun than the strip's other villains.

Latin aficionados, I have a question.

"Book of the Dead" is indeed Liber mortuorum. For another approach, Romans liked to use the subjects of books as titles, e.g. Cicero's De natura deorum, "On the Nature of the Gods" -- so you could use something like De mortuis, "On the Dead". "On the Walking Dead" would be De mortuis...

    The Un-iconics?

The PC Portraits section of Wizard's site includes pictures of some "Unlikely PC's", including a half-orc wizard -- but no article, just portraits.

How many temples in a community?

There could be virtually any number, really. wingsandsword beat me to the observation that the number could be very large (the town nearest my parents' house had 1600 people as of the 2000 census and at least ten churches); but, to give a historical example at the other end, a city larger than...

    Converting 1st modules

That was actually true under 1e as well -- I ran Keep on the Borderlands as part of a nostalgia campaign last summer, and the single-classed PC's were level 3-4 at the end of it. (Nobody died, but I did give the players some hints about what order to take things in.) The level guidelines for 1e...

    Who are Howard and Leiber?

Apuleian D&D I think I could make a case that The Golden Ass is the progenitor of magical realism -- unlike the Greek novels that had evil Egyptian wizards chasing people off the map and even to the moon, Apuleius kept things in real places, and the events that aren't impossible are described...

Mystara monsters in Dungeon or Dragon magazines?

Bruce Heard's "Voyage of the Princess Ark" and "Known World Grimoire" series in Dragon often introduced new monsters, and there are articles by him in issues 170 and 171 on Known World dragons (the former with a new "dragon soul" monster, the latter with several named dragons).

WorldWorks 3D sets - anybody ever use any of them?

I can tell you that Dungeonworks Classic (which they probably don't sell anymore -- I got it on sale last summer) looks very good even on my dirt-cheap Canon i320, though it is ink-intensive, and the detail is too fine to appreciate from typical gaming distances. I dealt with the latter problem...

    Birthright

!!! I've wanted for years to run a strategic-level game and a traditional RPG campaign in the same setting, with each affecting the other. Have I been looking for Birthright without knowing it? ...and, since nothing is exactly what I'm looking for, how much work would it take to convert...

GMs: Do you change the colors of your dragons?

I use color-coded dragons, but in my homebrew world, dragons all hatch neutral and translucent-ish and then become chromatic or metallic as a side-effect of becoming evil or good (or gemstone-colored if they stay neutral). So a silver dragon and a white dragon could be siblings. I also use...

I ordered from Fantasy Flight Games and...

I've only ordered from them once (during the same sale), but when I did, they did everything right, including not charging my card until they shipped my books and having a UPS tracking number emailed to me.

Conspiracy X (or GURPS Conspiracy X) - anyone have it?

Warehouse 23 has GURPS Conspiracy X in stock -- http://www.warehouse23.com/item.html?id=EDN0024. The basic setup of ConX is that the PC's work for various government agencies, but are also belong to a "good-guy" conspiracy ("Aegis"), trying to keep the world safe from various icky aliens...

    D&D ranger = Texas Ranger?

It makes sense. I had this sudden revelation while running Keep on the Borderlands as part of a nostalgia campaign last summer (a module that starts with a band of greenhorns arriving at a frontier settlement, looking to make names for themselves...) that Western tropes work really well in D&D...

What do you do if a Raven follows you?

Considering the frequency of combat in most games I've been in, every adventuring party should probably have ravens following them around all the time. To scavengers, PC's are wandering gourmet chefs.

Knight type class in Roman style game

Cavalry did get more prominent in the Roman military over time, so it wouldn't be hard to justify a Roman Empire that lasted a lot longer making heavy use of it. Alternately, auxiliary cavalry fought under Roman officers; a PC could be a member of an important family who started his military...
