d20 Mecha SRD in PDF form?

There's the "Mecha SRD Extreme" from Ronin Arts, but I haven't seen a free PDF for download, either.

Interesting PC races for a ancient greek/roman setting

Have you looked at The New Argonauts yet? It runs with the "human descendants of the gods" idea for PC's -- not exactly what you're asking for, but there may well be something in there you find useful for the campaign, and you can't beat the price now that it's free.

    Oots #463

Um... but when she arrived, Xykon and Redcloak were down, and if she'd just paused to let Soon talk, she could have destroyed Xykon's phylactery and pernanently finished off the bad guys. There was no need to destroy the Gate. Miko turned a win for Good into a win for Evil.

    Dragon #356

Any hint as to when and where we'll meet those guys?

    What WotC licenses remain?

Probably not -- according to the rumor mill, XXVc wasn't exactly a commercial success, and there probably won't be another Buck Rogers RPG license unless/until another member of the Dille family is running an RPG publisher.

    Same stats, different manticore?

A griffin-like beast with the head of a giant spitting cobra. A kind of fey that can command trees or rocks near its enemies to attack. A monstrous version of the Teleporter from Buck Godot -- the spike attack becomes a claw that teleports, strikes, and teleports out of reach again. Stymphalian...

d10 here. And anyone who thinks Plato was rational hasn't read enough of his work.

Just got the CD with issues 1-250; What is best, IYNSHO?

Even if the software isn't Vista-compatible, the magazines in the archive are standard PDF files, so you'll still be able to access them.

Just got the CD with issues 1-250; What is best, IYNSHO?

There's a saying that the Golden Age of science fiction is 12 -- I suspect (and have said before) that Dragon works similarly, in that most people seem to think the best issues are the ones that came out around the time they first discovered the magazine. With that said: I second the...

    Monsters of Suck

I wouldn't even bother making a prestige class for them. Take one gnoll, add a few monk levels, Improved Disarm, and a set of nunchaku, and you've got a flind.

    Monsters of Suck

Besides the trap monsters (cloakers et al.) and the monsters with cool weapons that stop being cool when the PC's get them (flinds, kuo-toa, quillans, githyanki...), 1e's legacy also includes a lot of "gotcha" monsters whose main gimmick is being mistaken for something else. The gas spore is...

    Truly "secret" languages?

No problem. :) It happens that a big chunk of my undergrad senior thesis was about the origins of Greek literacy, and one of the reasons I'm in grad school now is my tendency to lecture. ;)

    Truly "secret" languages?

Umberto Eco's _The Search for the Perfect Language_ is good reading for anyone who is interested in this kind of thing; it talks about the whole idea of a language that perfectly describes reality, and particularly Renaissance-era attempts to find such a thing (which was usually equated with the...

    Truly "secret" languages?

Hm. FWIW, aleph is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet; the Greek alphabet starts with alpha. (They're so similar because the two scripts come from a common ancestor, Phoenician.)

Looking for an old, possibly apocryphal book

Behold the power of Google. A search for "garlic bread golem" led me to this ENWorld thread from last summer, in which tzor identifies the source as "All the World's Monsters". Googling "All the World's Monsters" brought up this DriveThruRPG page -- yep, three volumes are available in PDF for...

    Rules Compendium!

From hanging out here and rarely buying D&D supplements (the newest WotC book on my shelf is Lords of Madness), I get the impression that a lot of rules that probably ought to be in core books have been introduced across supplements. If the Rules Compendium presents the entire "3.75e" system as...

    Spellbook piracy: is it theft?

What if you took real-world academic writing, rather than software, as your model? Research is time-consuming, and the journals and books it's published in are expensive and available only through specalized channels -- but researchers want their work to be read, and consequently there is a...
