Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

More than Mentzer's Basic Set? (which IIRC, was the leader)

D&D General Have you ever retired a character?

Several times. Usually when they reach name level or so (level 9). For various reasons, mostly campaign ending or I want to play something different.

Let me add Rockford Files. Still holds up.

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

Side unproductive discussion aside, I think it’s important that when teaching new players, we have to consider what life is like currently, not 50 years ago. New players know about the game, they have internet, they have cellphones and apps, they are used to seeing minis and tokens because those...

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

That’s like saying a rotary phone is more relevant to be someone’s first phone over a cell phone. Also, from the 1977 set: Intro, page 1: They create their own map as they explore. While only paper and pencil need be used, it is possible for the characters of each player to be represented by...

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

No, otherwise they'd be just boxed sets of the game. A starter set, by name, usually implies limited rules.

What are you reading in 2025?

One thing I like about those books from the 60s and 70s is that they are less than 200 pages typically. It makes a quick read. A great option if you want to read a book quickly

What are you reading in 2025?

Supposedly that would be Odin in the picture, so I guess he can do what he wants.

What are you reading in 2025?

Every so often I like to go back and read some classic fiction. Just about done with this one, and it was an enjoyable short read

Any OGL is going to be more restrictive than CC though, right? So wouldn't every OGL essentially do that?

Oh, I'm a business. I'm registered and everything! :P What's that saying? "If you want to end up with a million dollar RPG business, start with 2 million." I don't know the number of Indie businesses in this hobby also have day jobs, but I bet I'm not the only one.

    D&D 5E (2024) What's In D&D's New Starter Set?

Sure. I get it. And again, I'm not trying to pick on you because I see where you're coming from. More of an opportunity to bring it up in discussion in general.

    D&D 5E (2024) What's In D&D's New Starter Set?

I'm not trying to pick on you, because I see this all the time, especially in headlines. Whenever the partner/wife of a known personality, even if she's known as well, does something, it's always, "So-and-so's wife." It's never her name. "George Clooney's wife represents Julian Assange."...

With me it is. I consider it a success if I break even. I pretty much put all income into the next project to the point I don't consider it a "real" income at all.

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

I'm curious why you feel this way. Based on previous D&D starter sets, and other modern starter sets from other companies, a $50 price seems pretty standard. Full game boxed sets seem to be much higher. Is it the price that makes you feel that way? Starter sets in general?

Yeah. It's like blaming companies for going out of business due to sudden, massive, and unexpected tariffs.

When the OGL debacle happened, we saw a lot of companies work on their own OGL. Then WotC released it to CC and I think since then, most people want that over an OGL. It's much simpler and easier. So this move is not surprising.
