    Revised Challenge Ratings/Encounter Levels (pdf)

Greetings Upper_Krust! That's a decent number of downloads. Word is spreading my friend. Got some rapid-fire question for you... 1> I assume that "size" is no longer factored into your challenge ratings, or was it overlooked? 2> How would you rate a character with two 0-level apprentice...

*Quietly nods to self.* I have been the Paleolithic-brain during any one of these threads, continually playing catch-up in my posts. Upper_Krust certainly knows this from all the Email questions he answers for me. And yet, regardless of not always grasping how the whole system works (until...

My vote on the attribute discussion is to *not* modify CR if a race has "balanced attribute bonuses" (high elf; +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution = +0.0 CR), and to modify their CR if a race has "imbalanced attribute bonuses" (goblin; +2 Dexterity, -2 Strength, -2 Charisma = -0.2 CR) or (female...

It is... thank you Anubis, but I am still curious about my question. This change in the way attributes are counted should still create more 1/4, 1/3, and 1/2 Challenge Ratings at low levels. Does the new CR system that Upper Krust is proposing account for fractioned Challenge Ratings?

Upper Krust, if your challenge rating system removes attributes from the equation, that should create more 1/4, 1/3, and 1/2 Challenge Ratings at low levels. I can't remember if your CR rules allow for fractioned CR values. Do they?

A call to all the innovative minds of the House Rules forum...

That's a long and complicated question for me to answer (based on the campaign setting I have been developing for the last year), but for all intent and purpose, I will say "yes" (for attacking armor that is unattended). The real answer is much longer and requires a URL to my web site. :)...

What a huge transition. You go to bed thinking, okay... earth is the 3rd planet in our solar system, the sun rises before it sets, and Upper Krust has a firm grasp on how attributes modify Challenge Ratings. Great, I can sleep now. Then you wake up the next morning, and Upper Krust has dropped...

I have cobbled together the following values to represent the universal hardness of certain natural armor types. Natural Armor Hardness (Example) Calloused Sinewy skin: 3 (Bugbear) Bone/Exoskeleton: 5 (Umber hulk) Hide/Leathery skin: 5 (Ogre/Lizardfolk) Shell: 6 (Dragon turtle) Scale: 7 (Great...

I agree about bone and wood. I would probably both of them at Hardness 5, and shell at 6.

I don't really see how "shell" could have the same Hardness as Mithral. Perhaps one or two steps lowers than stone; in the 7 or 6 range.

I am in the process of trying to assign some sensible values to the "Hardness" values of certain types of natural armor, but I don't want to do so in a vacuum. My premise operates from a sense of universality. Meaning, I only want to assign one Hardness value to each type of natural armor; for...

What is the Hardness of leather?

I did a find word search through the Main D&D FAQ... (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20030221a) ...and actually found an answer on page 26. "As an object, armor has a hardness appropriate to its construction: 10 for metal, 5 for leather or hide, and 0 for padded armor. (Treat...

What is the Hardness of leather?

Padded, leather, and studded leather armor is what I'm thinking about.

What is the Hardness of leather?

While it may come from a cow, leather is treated and stiffened afterwards (before making it into armor). If glass has a Hardness of 1, then leather has got to be more than 0.

What is the Hardness of leather?

The Hardness of leather (per inch of thickness) seems to be left out of the Player's Handbook for some reason (and any other sourcebook I have checked). Does anybody have a bead on the official value?

Not to unduly support Wizards of the Coast, but they have been quoted as saying "not all feats were created equal". They were even talking about Skill Focus at the time (when asked to justify the +2 bonus against a feat like Alertness). Many people were already imbuing Skill Focus with a +3...

Skill Focus is no diploma... I can see your reasoning behind the insignificance of a +2 or even a +3 skill bonus, but +10 goes too far. I'm not one to have knee jerk reactions to wildly new ideas, but this bonus is hugely overpowered for 1 feat. A rogue must wait until 10th level before...

Are "awakened" animals considered magical beasts?

That's fine. This particular animal was awakened by a sylvan creature and then set loose. The point was to give him his freedom. I just thought a rule like this would naturally be covered in the official rules. I still can't find anything.

Are "awakened" animals considered magical beasts?

The druid spell awaken gives no details about any possible transformation that occurs to an animal after becoming the recipient of this spell, and yet such a transformation must occur. My first thought is to make them magical beasts for the purposes of skills points and BAB, but is there any...
