How important are figurers too your game

I'm the type who uses card stock rather than minis because A) I hate losing them B) I really really really hate stepping on the things. C) It's cheaper D) Did I mention how much I hate stepping on the things? But I know folks who sell custom-painted minis for hundreds of dollars. I...

No 5e threads for now, please

The only thread I'd find interesting would be a pool guessing when it would be released, minimum X years in the future. But that'd probably violate some laws against gambling. Contents of the edition might make for side-wagers, but could be difficult. I don't see much to discuss that can't...

    Running a PBP

There's a reason I set a post-limit and a wait time. In some cases, I even keep the Player's responses hidden from each other, and make the summary myself. A few times I've even kept player identities secret, and thrown in a few fakes so nobody knows for sure.

    Forgotten Realms "Canon Lawyers"

Well, me, I think it's the people making the Smoke, not the Realms. People always get into conflict, and there's no sense blaming the Realms for Human Nature. If it wasn't one thing, it'd probably be another. See prior posts for example.

[Star Wars] What if the Empire Won?

How much of the post-SW material do you want to include? Grand Admiral Thrawn would be an interesting character to include, as might the the Yuuzhan Vong. Prince Xizor as well. Some of the events from the novel series might be included, such as the Katana Fleet or the Emperor's monitoring...

    memory of a thousand lifetimes

Well, it says the result, and then says add 1d6 to the roll, so I'm inclined to say they used different words, you get to respond to the result, not to the roll. But I can see it going the other way. It does seem powerful. It really depends on how you handle the skill check. If you let the...

    Forgotten Realms "Canon Lawyers"

Ok, back to gaming. How do folks feel about multi-media productions, such as the Pool(s) of Radiance adventure, computer game, and Novel? In a sense, it was a way to have canon, yet somewhat flexible and blended? The same applies to Curse of the Azure Bonds and the Myth Drannon follow-ups...

Removing my words you took out of context would be quite worth it to me. I would greatly appreciate it if you did so.

Try Birthright instead. Double Digits are high.

    Forgotten Realms "Canon Lawyers"

It's not the job of the players to want that, is it? Publishers might, but player interests may not be the same, and as such, the two may come into conflict. So it becomes a question, can we do X to please Y without offending Z? Which is something tough to answer. Lucky for them perhaps...

    Forgotten Realms "Canon Lawyers"

jdrakeh, please do me a favor, go back and read post 266, where I already pointed out that one person missed the important line, that way I can avoid repeating myself. Thanks in advance! And you're probably right Joe. Oh well.

    Let's break the Realms!

I honestly don't think it would, but y'know, let's table that discussion. I just think it's boring because I've read enough "And this is X done EVIL!" to be well past satiation levels. There's only so many Owl-man's you can take. I could change the alignment of both, so much as cities could...

    What is your alignment?

Well, I don't quite agree, since I don't see you recognizing what I'm saying. Sorry, maybe some other time.

    Forgotten Realms "Canon Lawyers"

And that's not exactly what it was meant to be(well, not of you specifically, mind you, just happens to be the contrast to what was put forth as the one's side), as it was a response to just such a mis-characterization from jdrakeh? Because I'm pretty sure that was my intent. Did you not...

    Let's break the Realms!

Why do something as trite as Elminster turns evil....do something original like, Mansoon turns Good!!! Nobody's ever done that before*. *Disclaimer: No wait, they have!

    Forgotten Realms "Canon Lawyers"

No. As absurd as a DM who can't be bothered to learn a setting at all before playing in it, with players who know and expect more authenticity out of it? Or as a filmmaker who can't bother to get the heart of a character down before spending millions to make a pretentious movie series...

    Forgotten Realms "Canon Lawyers"

Indeed, the freedom to leave is always there. But that doesn't mean it can't be perceived that you're forcing someone to choose between leaving or accepting the unacceptable. Consider that point of view for a bit if you can. I'll second the suggestion of asking your players what they want...

    What is your alignment?

Well, I think you're underestimating the impact of the default. Me, I can understand why people are relieved to see the core rules changed to something more akin to their liking. Sure, you could have changed it already yourself, many people did, for things besides just alignments, but when...
