US Tariffs: $80-$200 Surcharge On All Packages Regardless of Price

Exactly. That's what I mean about bankruptcies. It's going to be especially nasty in this tiny niche hobby with razor-thin margins.

    Draw Steel News

Yeah, I think the negotiation and montage rules are the most interesting to me. I'm such a nut for clocks that I want to see what everyone's doing with them. Any little twists and turns in their use inevitably catches my interest.

If the players refuse to avail themselves of the multiple free options to get access to that same information, yes that's a player problem. Some of my groups are spread out across roughly equal distance and we manage just fine with a basic VTT that only does maps, minis, and dice. We don't use...

US Tariffs: $80-$200 Surcharge On All Packages Regardless of Price

Exactly. It's a giant mess that's going to cause some businesses to go bankrupt and some customers to have overdraft fees. I can see a lot of canceled orders and a lot of Kickstarters holding on to a lot of stock. Luckily I only have one outstanding physical product Kickstarter and if I get hit...

The rules for the cards are included in the free SRD and artless versions of the cards are a separate free download from Darrington Press. Both are linked in the OP here. There's no issue with the players not having access to the cards. Unless the players themselves refuse to download the SRD or...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

There’s only so much blatant bad faith I can take. I get different people have different tolerances, but it’s wild to me that so many people call out that poster’s bad faith while still continuing to actively engage with the poster. This is what the ignore feature is for.

I’m not. I’m providing an alternate perspective. As long as the VTT can handle maps and minis close enough to a real tabletop, then it’s good enough for me. The people playing the game can handle the rules just like they do around a real table.

Does the VTT have maps and minis? Then you can play any game on it. Insisting the VTT be fully automated with full rules integration before it’s considered functional is wild to me. I don’t want to play a video game. I like the mental exercise of having to think about the rules and mechanics. I...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

It’s not possible to write a rule that will survive bad-faith interpretations. So don’t play with people who insist on making those bad-faith interpretations.

This is why BECMI is effectively split into 4-5 separate games. Dungeon delves, wilderness exploration, warfare, domains, and immortality. The first two are close enough to be interchangeable. The second two are close, but not close enough. And the last is wildly different. No one of them is...

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

Even if the referee is the most graceful and masterful at hiding the rails, they are still present. And that is the problem. That the rails exist is what makes it railroading.

Right? It's a sweet game and was fun to play around with, but I'm being pulled back to my old-school games.

Yep. Best sign of a railroad. Being told you have agency when you have none. So much better to actually have choices that matter. What a novelty.

D&D General The Great Railroad Thread

Like most of these terms we spend so much time arguing about, railroading is fairly easy to define. Most of the arguments come from people not wanting their preferred style of play called railroading, not the actual definition. Does the referee negate player agency to preserve their preferred...

What makes a successful superhero game?

A few games, yes. A campaign, no. And that’s all down to it devolving to the Doctor show. Great at emulating the show Doctor Who. Terrible at being a fun game for anyone not playing the Doctor or another broken character. Wouldn’t matter. But yes, as written in Doctor Who, story points don’t...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Not a plus thread but not going to stink up an otherwise positive thread. I prefer action-adventure stories, so I do the opposite of whatever old man snooze fest did. Skip all the boring bits he focused on and get on with it.

    Modern Action RPGs

The already mentioned Outgunned would be my top suggestion. It’s a great, light system. Never Stop Blowing Up by Dimension 20 and Brennan Lee Mulligan. Wushu is a dead simple rules light game. Does action and gunfu really well.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Some fan communities are simply hostile to new people. And then they wonder why they’re a niche within a niche within a niche and don’t grow. Good luck. You’ll need it.
