Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Man, the anecdote about the Nazi getting kicked out of the punk bar should not be this relevant this often.

Would ACKS be a good fit to capture the BECMI-feel?

Exactly. If I have a choice between no gaming community and one filled with Nazis, I'll take no gaming community every time. Solo play is better than playing with Nazis. Gatekeep the Nazis. It's the right thing to do.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

This is one of the many great uses for solo play. Can't find a group willing to play your favorite game, play it solo. Can't stand other humans but want to play an RPG, play it solo.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I think that about sums it up. Cooperation & Fair Play. Players, work with your GM. If you don’t trust your GM to be fair, find a new GM. GMs, work with your players. If you don’t trust your players to be fair, find new players.

Sword World to Get Official English Translation

People on the other Sword World discord were saying simply signing up again was enough to get the email instantly.

Sword World to Get Official English Translation

Apparently it's going out in waves. There's also a discord set up by the publisher, Mugen Gaming.

It is a game. What's wrong with it being a game?

What are your thoughts on TTRPGs with non-standard dice?

Different sizes of numbered dice you can get from several different manufacturers, fine. Proprietary dice with symbols you can only get from the game's publisher, pass. ETA: Apparently I unconsciously make an exception for Fate dice. Most likely because they're produced by more than just Evil...

What makes a successful superhero game?

It’s a great game. Doesn’t get the love it deserves.

What makes a successful superhero game?

No, I’m disagreeing with the idea that story points are in any way a means to balance these characters. Even starting the Doctor with zero and the companion 12 the Doctor wildly outshines everyone else. Even removing story points from the Doctor entirely, start at zero and never earns any, the...

Worlds of Design: The Problem with Space Navies, Part 1

I have enough realism in my life. Entertainment is for fun, dramatic, and awesome stuff.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

That is one of the best examples of “gamers just don’t understand how stories work” I’ve ever seen.

What makes a successful superhero game?

It’s an MMO convention. Clearly something that doesn’t translate well. What was the fishing mini game like? Yeah. It’s a weird phenomenon. Like comedians who don’t think comedy is worthwhile so try to become serious actors or whatever. People in comics outside the big two seem to loath...

What makes a successful superhero game?

Yeah. I've definitely been there. I fluctuate between utterly minimalist rules and pure narrative to something like Marvel Super Heroes in levels of crunch for superheroes. My utter limit was M&M 3E, but that one broke me. I tried and tried and tried but it just lost me. I loved that they...

What makes a successful superhero game?

I think the tropes are the easiest part. If you're a comic book nerd you can rattle off dozens and be fine. It's making the mechanics reinforce those tropes and making it a fun game that's the hard part. I do think you need to be able to handle both Batman and Superman or Hawkeye and Thor on the...

What makes a successful superhero game?

Yes, and it absolutely does not work in that game. The Doctor still runs around outshining all other PCs constantly. Because C7 forgot to include anything like a cap or limit on story points. So yes, the Doctor starts with fewer story points, but, importantly...the Doctor can earn story points...
