[Conan] 5eD&D - no spellcasters in the group

@Neonchameleon +1 to hit in 4e makes you hit about 10% as often if you would averagely hit on a 11 without the feat. (You go from 10 hits to 11 hits every 20 attacks, a 10% increase). Nearly all combat manoeuvres you do in 4e depends on your to-hit chance, so I would say it's the most important...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Hobgoblin stat block

There will be a disconnect, you got something like the normal-elite-solo divide from 4e.

D&D 5E (2014) So why's the spell's saving throw and target in the text block?

Even the 4e power cards are too verbose in my opinion. I don't want a eight page character sheet. Instead I made a one page cheat sheet. I don't need all the information, just enough for me to remember what the power does. I did the same with the 3e spells and am going to do the same with the 5e...

D&D 5E (2014) Too much bickering about 5e, let's get down to what matters.

The OP is probably asking for what you think will be the better edition. Not what's objectively better. That's your assumption about the poll. Anyway the poll results here basically mirrors the poll I had in the: "Are you buying 5e" poll/thread. Nearly 80% has pre-ordered or are going to buy...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Hobgoblin stat block

How can it be formation fighting when it works perfectly well for the hobgoblin with a bow 150 feet from his ally goblin harassing the PC?

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Hobgoblin stat block

I am really wondering: are they going to fix issues like this before the Monster Manual is released? I do believe 1d8+1+2d6 = 12.5 damage on a hit for a Challenge 1/2, 100xp monster is going to be over the top. It would probably be fine if it was 1d6 extra damage. The MM that came with 4e was...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Hobgoblin stat block

Your quote misses the question, so it's kind of misleading, it only applies to 'solo' monsters. With the question it becomes a bit clearer: Building an encounter should be done more or less like this: a) Select monsters. No monster should have a CR higher than the average level of the party...

Now I am curious, what about the monster previews makes you think this? I think they look pretty basic.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Hobgoblin stat block

Ah, but then they risk the whirlwind+greater cleave combo! :D Anyway, I think it would be pretty amusing having a party ambushed by some goblins with some hobgoblins 150' away peppering them with 1d8+1 +2d6 damage arrows. .... I have a feeling they should have made that 2d6 only applicable...

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Except 7

Nah, I found it confusing as well. I kind of regret starting the discussion on what the emphasis should be for stats on monsters, even though I hope they change the MM. If they don't it's not a big deal at all.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Except 7

Yeah, I thought of it because of the character sheet where this is "fixed". It's just a minor detail though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Except 7

There is one thing I hope they fix, and that's the formatting of the ability stat block. They should remove emphasis of the stat, since it won't be used most of the time. Instead of writing Str 18 (+4) They should have written: Str +4 (18)

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Except 7

I see there is some misconceptions here regarding what the Challenge [rating] of a monster actually means. From what I can remember Challenge is just a sanity check to see if you should use the monster against PC's of a certain level or not. If it has Challenge 2, you should only use it vs PC's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Philosophy of 5e

Looking at the poll data here: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?356149-Are-you-going-to-buy-5e I think that your conclusion is made from a subjective point of view and that empirical data suggest otherwise. With only around 6% saying 5e isn't their kind of game, it looks like they...

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Philosophy of 5e

I find that 4e's total separation of fluff and mechanics in power descriptions makes me pretty much ignore the fluff. It has no use, so why should I read it? This already started in 3e when they had clear concise rules for how a "line" type of spell worked. 2e on the other hand had some...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you going to buy 5e?

I think that 5e won't have an endless number of supplements and that I, for the first time, think will actually buy the supplements. In 3 and 4e I really didn't see the point of buying 20 additonal books with character options. In 3e I got so fed up with them that I ran a core-only game (PHB...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you going to buy 5e?

Same for me, except I didn't know about this site until the 4e playtests, so I had no information before a friend of mine had bought the books! :D

Be honest, how long would it really take you to notice all of this stuff...?

That's quite similar to how they did it with 4e. It worked pretty well. I do like 5e's concentration for spells with duration though. I really hope you end up with encounters where it's really important to gank the buffing spellcaster to get rid of the concentration-buff-spells. It gives me the...
