    D&D 5E (2014) 5E and Sense of Accomplishment

More feats and maneuvers won't necessarily slow down the game. Optional tactical rules very likely will slow down the game. Since those rules are optional, you can tailor them to the group you are playing with. If you want a story-focused game you can keep the game light, if you want it more...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E and Sense of Accomplishment

Majoru Oakheart, Mistwell thanks for your responses. I was going to mention that the 3.0 PHB wasn't too fiddley when I remembered all the hour-long buffs, minute-long buffs and x-round-long buffs. Then I remembered all the +1/-1 bonuses or penalties you could stack up and the grappling rules...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E and Sense of Accomplishment

Well said! Btw, is 5e really that much faster than 3e? Is it because of the more limited character creation options in the 5e test rules, lower levels in the playtest or is the system just faster? In other words, I am curious to what you think makes the system faster. With combats only lasting...

    D&D 5E (2014) BoardGameGeek at a 5e Seminar

delericho I basically agree with all of your points, except I kinda liked 4e. I do prefer getting 5e instead of 4.5e though, so not the same reasoning, but the same result wanted.

    D&D 5E (2014) BoardGameGeek at a 5e Seminar

The transition from 3.0 til 3.5 was very smooth for me, and I think 3.5 was a better game than 3.0. In other words, it's actually something I would appreciate. Sure it looks/feels like a money grab, but you get a really polished game you can't get at launch. It just isn't possible to see...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Spells Per Day

I played a lot of spellcasters in 3.x and they get really overpowered. The last cleric I played got to level 18 and had a spell for basically everything. Reducing the number of spells is probably a good idea. I didn't like the 4e spellcasters though. They have too little utility. 5e looks to...

They don't do errata re-prints though? At least not to my knowledge. You would probably have to wait for D&D 5.5e in 2020.

Now that 5E is imminent, what are your D&D plans?

Good to hear somebody mention why they are playing 4e. I think the best part is how easy it is to create balanced encounters. In the current campaign I am playing in, my wizard did 4x36+4x10 = 184 damage against four targets using a encounter power, while the warlock did 1x50 damage. About...

The printing cost when you print 100k+ books is probably around 5$ for a 160 page full color book. 20$ would still give you a nice profit. ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Here's to hoping for an iOS character generator...

I think we might have a misunderstanding here. We are both saying that the group should share the same account, so one guy in the group takes the whole cost. The group gets one account, that one person can log into at a time. You are arguing for a subscription fee per month for access to all...

D&D 5E (2014) Here's to hoping for an iOS character generator...

I find the current model very expensive: 6 years * 12 months *6$ = 432$, and if you stopped paying now, you lose access to everything. It's not like you couldn't share an account with a pay per access to a book (with no payment pr month like now). WotC could just continue with the current...

D&D 5E (2014) Here's to hoping for an iOS character generator...

The easiest way to do this would probably be to wrap the html5 app in a native app. Anyway, I am relatively sure they will create a app that requires an internet connection.

D&D 5E (2014) Here's to hoping for an iOS character generator...

OH WAIT! :p You can't buy the current app, you can only rent it! ... sorry for the snark, I just couldn't resist. ;) But seriously, you can't buy the current app, you can only rent it. A much "nicer" business-model is to allow you to buy access pr book. A bit like the most successful F2P...

D&D 5E (2014) Here's to hoping for an iOS character generator...

I am actually assuming that WotC would require a internet connection whatever approach they choose. It's the easiest way to avoid piracy. I can see the issues you with requiring always-on, but looking at how we are doing it now, we are always playing at a place with wireless internet. I don't...

The poll really lacks an option for: "Going to finish my current campaign, then switch".

D&D 5E (2014) Here's to hoping for an iOS character generator...

A better alternative would be a html5*-based app that works on all platforms, and was smart enough to scale decently from smartphones to desktop PC's. Basically a web page in other words. ;) *Using whatever tricks necessary to get it running on browser that don't support the whole specification.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E PHB on Amazon $30 Pre-Order

I remember seeing the offer at http://dnd4.com/ and they still have it up there, the price being 66.12$. I believe that was the original price. I really do hate shipping costs. It costs about 8$ a book from the US*. Which is actually cheaper than it would be if I wanted it shipped in Norway...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E PHB on Amazon $30 Pre-Order

Now it's 32$, was 40$ when I checked an hour ago. Really weird stuff. The 4e starter set ended up costing 67$, so if these books end up costing 32*3 = 96$ I think it will be pretty good value for the money. The page count is higher and there has been some inflation since 4e was released.

    D&D 5E (2014) BoardGameGeek at a 5e Seminar

I really like the idea of Basic D&D 5e. Looking at the page numbers 48x3 = 144, it should be more than enough to run a game and a good way to reduce the complexity for new players and dm's. Instead of 3x320 = 960 pages of stuff to go through, you have 144 pages, or <48 if you are a player. Much...

D&D Multimedia Poll - What Else Should Wizards Do?

It should go without saying, but looking at the sucky D&D games and movies already out there, I think it has to be stated explicitly.
