    Extreme slowdowns?

I wasn't here a lot during the D&DXP event, but I have been the last week, and every day, starting around noon and lasting late in the evening, this site has been slowing down quite a bit for me, though it seems to bounce to nearly reasonable to incredibly slow. Sometimes it takes up to two...

Force Orb: Secondary attacks on a miss?

No, it basically works like Chain Lightning. It hits a primary target, and bounces along to other nearby targets.

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

Races and Classes made a pretty good case that they were toned down in core, at least... they wanted psionics to specialize in that kind of effect, so toned it down on the Wizard spell list.

    Rules clarifications

I agree too. But then, JD Wiker's game design principals seem to fit a different style of game than 4e.

    Rodney Thompson on Multiclassing

I don't know about confirmed, but on my downloaded sheet it's showing as Wizard Attack 1, not Half-elf Racial Power.

D&D 4E What was Paizo thinking? 3.75 the 4E clone?

The same reason I pre-ordered Star Wars Saga Edition. I liked what I saw in the previews. Same thing with Game of Thrones RPG. The new World of Darkness books. And, as for why I want a new system when I already have 3.5: the same reason I bought Mutants and Masterminds, Classic Battletech RPG...

D&D 4E What was Paizo thinking? 3.75 the 4E clone?

See, this kind of proves the point of what was being discussed. It's likely that the people staying with 3.5 already have everything they need. Thus, how will Paizo succeed in trying to sell more to that market? I hope they do succeed. But it's highly risky, a lot riskier than selling 4e...

    I Dislike...

I voted dislike 3e, but it's not that I never had fun with the system. It was great for 8 years of fantasy action fun. But after 8 years, the flaws start coming to the forefront and it's hard to enjoy DMing it anymore. In general, I'm just tired of it. If 4e wasn't coming out, I'd probably have...

D&D 4E POL Settings in Literature to Base 4e Settings On

Actually, I was going to suggest it, but even by the end of the second book F'lar's tradition-defying has already gotten rid of the PoL feeling. The first book, definitely. The same with the first two Harper Hall books, and the books co-written by Todd McCaffrey definitely fit.

D&D 4E POL Settings in Literature to Base 4e Settings On

I think that would fit more of a skill-based system, but yeah, that'd definitely be great to RP. That was a great book.

    Minions, figuratively speaking

Minions would work well for large battles too. (For another cinematic example, look at the movie version of the battle for Helm's Deep in Two Towers, and how the heroes cut down enemies left and right, and the only real threat is in numbers.)

D&D 4E What was Paizo thinking? 3.75 the 4E clone?

Of course, you have to remember that a large portion of Paizo's initial audience are the ones who are saying 4e doesn't feel like D&D.

Dragonborn - will you ban them?

I'm definitely allowing them. I'm working on a new campaign setting for my games, and I was actually thinking (before I heard of Dragonborn) of having a dragonkin race as part of it, so it fits perfectly. I'll be tweaking their culture a little for my setting, but still.

    Magical items

Personally, I really disliked the XP cost of crafting magic items, but I liked the rest of the system. I hope the new system is just as flexible. I usually run high-magic settings like Forgotten Realms. I am actually interested in trying out Eberron in 4e, too. (I avoided it in 3e because I...

DDI Character Visualizer to have bust slider

The whole column is tongue-in-cheek. She makes fun of herself and those she works with while revealing tidbits about whatever subject she's doing.

Points of Light approach to setting

Agreed. I think a PoL style setting would encourage you to stick near home at the early levels, but once you start getting near level 10 I imagine roaming will be completely viable. (How are you going to face kingdom-level threats at Paragon level if you never see the kingdom?)

Points of Light approach to setting

At high level, the adventurers will likely be well away from the points of light. At Paragon levels they're facing enemy armies, venturing into the Underdark, travelling into mountain ranges where nobody's tread in centuries, etc. At Epic levels, they'll probably be hopping planes and so on...

I think Barbarians should be strikers, or maybe even controllers

Not to get into the whole WoW argument (there's another thread for that), but Races and Classes already revealed that the Barbarian will be a Primal class. Barbarians will be to Druids as Paladins are to Clerics.

D&D 4E Keith Baker on 4E! (The Hellcow responds!)

Actually, I'd just like to point out that they didn't have to rescue the game. The game was one of the top games out there at the time, it had about 500,000 subscribers. (Which, I think, placed it as the top sci-fi MMO in history.) The problem was, marketting saw that WoW had millions of...
