D&D General The Original Reason for Spell Components: Balancing Bad Jokes

I don't see any connection with whitewash unless you're saying that a coating of white coloring infers magical power. Lime and carbon are used in the production of steel. The higher the carbon content, the harder the steel (although it's also more brittle). I know this because I'm a...

    Ernie Gygax Has Passed Away

I'm sad to hear of Ernie Gygax's passing and wish to offer my deep condolences to all his friends and family.

Full Cover Treatments for Dragon Delves Revealed

Could be this is a pre-production print of the covers. By the time the actual books are printed, they may change the spine so it matches the new core books.

    D&D 5E (2024) Dragon Delves Cover Revealed

In the 5.5 MM promo video for the new dragons, the WotC folks talked about some scenarios where good PC may have to fight good-aligned dragons, but I agree that it's always much more fun to go up against those nasty, scheming chromatics. I, also, think it would be better to have more adventures...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dragon Delves Cover Revealed

I've noticed that the price listed on the covers is $49.99. I've also seen it listed at that price for pre-order with some retailers. I figured the core books were reduced to $50 to promote sales of the core set since that's been done before with the core D&D books, but I wonder why this book...

D&D 5E (2014) For those playing 2014 5e, how are you reacting to the 2024 update?

It's easiest to use the mostly new set of rules since future products will be written incorporating those rules, but there are some older things that I'll keep using since they're better. Most importantly, I'm using the orcs/drow from the 5.0 MM and Volo's Guide.

    D&D 5E (2024) Where to next, WotC?

There are generally only around 4-6 slots per year for new products. I like seeing the best of the 1e stuff updated to 5e since there was a lot of great 1e stuff and it saves a lot of work if they do the work converting it for me, but I prefer not to see 5e stuff updated to 5.5e since it's...

    YES! Gamma World was awesome.

    D&D 5E (2024) Where to next, WotC?

It will have been 2 years since the last Adventure Path book, so I think we'll see another one of those. With the emphasis on adding high-CR monsters in the MM, I think it'll be a high-level book like Vecna was. Perhaps levels 11-20. Since they already updated G1-3, it would be interesting to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Where to next, WotC?

Dark Sun would be nice and so would another anthology, but I really hope they don't do Strahd for the 387th time. I may be in the minority here, but I like it when they do anthologies of the best 1e adventures. I don't like all their alterations, but these can be fixed. Some nice choices would...

    D&D 5E (2024) Where to next, WotC?

The 5e chart and partial 2e chart are great tools. I haven't been able to find the ones you did for the other editions listed on this forum. If you have time, would you please post the charts (or links to them) here? Thanks!

Jeremy Crawford Interview: The Monster Manual and More

I think that cultist is probably getting slimed with the critter's infamous mucus rather than being eaten.

D&D General Hold Back the Dead - Free Digital D&D Adventure Coming 4th Feb

I hope this is not the remains of what was to become the Red Wizards adventure path book. I was really looking forward to getting that adventure in hardcover! If you like that sort mission (as do I), I very much recommend the underrated 1e module UK3: The Gauntlet. I've always thought this...

Why Dungeons & Dragons Isn't Putting Out a Campaign Book in 2025

Perhaps you are correct about the price one would have to pay. Paizo's Pathfire adventure path uses a monthly subscription magazine format, although they don't call it a magazine. These magazines (or gamebooks or modules or whatever you want to call them) cost $30 each today (cheaper by...

Why Dungeons & Dragons Isn't Putting Out a Campaign Book in 2025

How I long for the return of Dungeon magazine. Magazines haven't died off yet and, for a reasonable annual subscription, you could get 4-7 adventures per month for an average of around 48-84 adventures per year. Since it was mostly written by freelancers, all you need is an editorial and...

So Much Art From the 2025 Monster Manual

This may sound a bit silly, but my original group and I always liked the 1e MM illustration of the rust monster rusting away the border of the box highlighting his illustration.

So Much Art From the 2025 Monster Manual

The pair of vampires are hot. Makes me wonder if the artist just binge watched the "Twilight" series.

    Dragon Reflections #85

She also did the cover to issue 61. Can't recall off hand if there were any other ones. (UPDATE --- She did the cover on 51 also.)

    Dragon Reflections #85

I was always intrigued by the wizard watching from the shadows. Is the boy supposed to be his apprentice or his son? I guess I'll never know.

    Dragon Reflections #85

The Susan Collins (who signed her artwork "Shay") covers for Dragon were my favorites. This one is awesome, just like all the others!
