    It's No Longer A Joke

Or your pursuit of the villain leads you back in time, where your climactic battle takes place on one of the floating cities of Netheril mere moments before Karsus casts his spell.... Actually did that one to my players to wrap up a campaign. They loved it.

    Preorder, cancel, preorder, cancel etc

I have a pre-order in myself -- with my FLGS. One, I like 'em and they're good folks to buy from. Two, I want my books on the 6th and so don't want to trust the vagaries of the shipping system, or the slightly seedy nature of the neighborhood in which I currently live. Bonus points will be...

You forgot to add: "and in all cases there's a Bard who will definitely hit it...."

    Ugly Half-Orc Backstory

If you go to Frederik KT Anderssen's gallery over at Elfwood, one of his illustrations there has an.... alternate take on what might lead up to a half-orc. Note that it's pretty much NSFW (let's say R-rated) -- I forget the title of it, but the thumbnail shows 2 figures leaping at a third from...

    Orcs preview

Heck, since those level 4 minions (Orc Drudge) are only worth 44xp each, 12 of them would be a perfect match for 5 level 1 characters. Sure, they'd go down fast but they stand a decent chance of doing a good bit of damage before they're done. Add in a single of the lower-level orcs to provide...

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

Okey-dokey! Three barrels of Alchemist's Fire, forty Tindertwigs and one albino squirrel coming right up! :area:

    D&D 4E Point buy, 4e & you.

That's an interesting variant. Hmmmm.... Might have to float this one past my group. I'm sure they'll find it an absolute :close: ;)

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

Yeah, I'd agree with the sentiments that while there were good changes from 3.0 to 3.5, the weapon size thing appeared good on paper, but in the end was just cumbersome and annoying. Good riddance!

    Excerpt: skill challenges

And that's why using the Intimidate skill in that situation simply provides one failure out of four -- it doesn't instantly derail the whole setup (unless they've blown 3 other skill rolls first), but it does serve as a bit of a setback and proves itself to be counterproductive. The funny thing...

D&D 4E Release dates for 4e (yep, I've been living in a cave)

This be The Source in Roseville, MN, yes? Any idea when we might have confirmation on whether or not they'll be able to do midnite? I salivate at the prospect....

    Excerpt: skill challenges

Actually, in this case, I'd use the fact that [insert ruthless bad guys] are using threats of violence towards the Duke's family as the reason the PC's aren't able to successfully Intimidate him. His back's already against the wall, everything he cares about is in jeopardy and he may take a...

    Excerpt: skill challenges

Ummmm, because the encounter template being referred to explicitly states that the scenario revolves around winning the Duke's trust so he will provide aid, possibly in the form of men and materiel? That's long-term aid in my book. This isn't a "Grill the Duke and pump him for info so we can...

    Excerpt: skill challenges

Regarding Intimidate and History: First, Intimidate. I think it might go over better if folks stopped thinking of Intimidate as being "impossible" to use against the Duke but rather as "counter-productive." It provides one skill failure out of 4. It would be railroading if it immediately...

    D&D 4E d20 Modern 4E - I want it!

I might actually go for a 4th Ed Modern (never got into 3.x Modern) -- been playing Persona 3 FES over the past couple of weeks and have been thinking that it might actually translate really well into 4th Ed. Would definitely be something to try out, at least.

D&D 4E Weird & Wacky Stuff You Want in 4e

I miss the old cave full of Piercers. The Darkmantle just doesn't have the same sorta oomph, ya know? Oooh, and the Lurker! What screams "Old Skool" more than stalactite-snails and bizarre square creatures that mimic a dungeon ceiling?

    D&D 4E 4e Campaign Idea w/ Core Fluff - The Sundered Isles

Heh, similar in scope but more down-to-earth than the 3.x campaign I've been running for a while. I went a *wee* bit bigger, too -- I didn't just break a continent, I broke entire worlds and left the remnants drifting in an endless sky. I also made it a lot more recent, too -- it happened a...

    Excerpt: Multiclassing (merged)

The question I have boils down thusly: :1: The three power-swapping feats have minimum level limits. :2: They can presumably be taken after level 11. which leads to the question: :3: Is there anything which would prevent the feats from being taken more than once, if you want to do a bit...
