    Is grappling broke?

Re: Broken Not always ;) ... I once build a character (lvl 12) who became huge regularly with str 32 and a grapple check of +32 :) ... you can beat quite a few large and huge monsters with that.

    Is grappling broke?

But a raging barbarian is not the ideal grappling character, you need a character that's polymorphed or otherwise enlarged. With a polymorphed expanded character (HUGE) with enhanced strength you can grapple a huge red dragon ..... with some luck ;)

    Is grappling broke?

A monster specializing in grappling opponents is fearsome to small groups of opponents. Do not forget that while grappling it almost always is subject to sneak attacks and other dex-related effects. Also, "improved grab" is not a feat, it is a special ability that monster have or don't have, you...

    Is grappling broke?

No he can not. The Behir has a +10 BaB, so can only initiate two grapple checks in a round. So it goes: - Behir attacks with bite, hits, does damage, grapple check, wins, oppponent grappled - Behir uses grapple check to swallow creature, gets cleave attack (this is a very special case that goes...

    Is grappling broke?

This works both ways ... "Improved Grapple" from OA is the (N)PC version of improved grab, though not as strong. And someone posted about the "awsome" ability of the behir grappling. Read it again .... his improved grab only works with his bite attack.

HOLY CRAP! (Or: How far can YOU jack up the Jump skill?)

A very high jump skill is just cool when you have no prc that adds damage. Jumping as part of a charge to strike a caster who thinks he hangs a save distance in the air is extremely cool :) ... especially with power lunge or flying kick. Jumping over Walls of Force and stuff like that is also...

HOLY CRAP! (Or: How far can YOU jack up the Jump skill?)

The speed used for calculating the jump distance is the normal walking speed, not running speed. Having the Run feat does increase the distance jumped. How things stack depends on how the abilities are named. - Expeditious Retreat for example gives an enhancement bonus. - Divine Vigor and the...

HOLY CRAP! (Or: How far can YOU jack up the Jump skill?)

The psychic warrior with mental leap and some speed feats or items is indeed an excellent jumper. I once played a character that had a running jump of > 200 ft and he wasn't even specially build for it. btw1: your speed only improves your running jumps, not your standing jumps btw2: your max...

Grapple, Swallow whole, & taking -20 to grapple check question (My players stay out)

That is exactly the nastyness of these creatures. Most are large or huge, and a lot stronger as the characters, so have a +5 to +25 relative to the characters for the first grapple check. After that the characters have "lost" at least a standard action to get free, and even with a -20 some...

    Need help creating a Monk3/Psionic1

As for psion-powers that boost the monk best, it is best to become an Egoist (strength based psion). Have a look at the mind's eye powers and classes, which can be found here : http://www.wizards.com/dnd/main.asp?x=dnd/psi/welcome,3 The first level power "lesser magical body" is very nice, it...

Use of Sneak Attack while Raging?

Yes a barbarian in rage can sneak attack. Sneak attack has little or nothing to do with the attacker. It is the defender that is unable to guard himself properly, thereby providing the attacker with a possibility to hit critical parts. There is nothing in the rage ability to prevent the rager...

Grapple, Swallow whole, & taking -20 to grapple check question (My players stay out)

Yes it can, if it has a BaB of +6 or higher. Then it can use it's itterative BaB for the grapple check that is needed for the swallow whole. Monsters with Improved Grab do not need to take -20 on the first free grapple check that starts the grapple. They can just try to grapple normally and...

    Improved Grab, and that Chuul

If the chuul wants to move, he has to win an opposed grapple check. The creature that is grappled takes d6 damage from the claw automatically each round it does not escape the grapple. Remember that the Chuul can pull the victim into it's tentacles as a partial action. From then on, the Chuul...

    Dragon Disciple size increase

That's only true if you start with a race that is large of itself, like an Ogre with +10 strength, but thats a +8 ECL ! Added to the +4 ECL of the half-dragon template that is 12 levels !!! I don't argue with the point that an average creature of the same size is stronger, but strength is not...

    Dragon Disciple size increase

The dragon disciple does not get the MM size increase bonusses. He only gets the stat bonusses of the prestige class. Becoming large however, DOES give him reach, a -1 AC/attack and the need for bigger equipment and bigger weapons. To sum it up (assuming a medium character): - Cleric BaB - good...

    Templates tend to suck?

You don't base an ECL calculator on one creature. You try to make a calculator that calculates all creature ECL's. Since about a third of the ECL's are actually known, once you've build a calculator that "predicts" those ones accurately you assume you can calculate all ECL's.

    Templates tend to suck?

About the ogre ... As for equipment, starting gold is counted for ECL, not for level. So your lvl 5 Ogre would have the starting gold of a lvl 10 character. How else do you think you could build an ECL calculator ???? Trying to calculate the known ECL's with working functions is THE way to do...

    Templates tend to suck?

I think the ECL is ok at +5, as was obvious from my calculation above. The ogre does have +10 on str which is actually only a +9 because any other fighter would have put one the stat bonus from four levels in strength anyway. A +9 to strenght is about a +5 on attack and a +7 on damage...
