So your position is, " I don't like the traditional GM/player power dynamic and want it to be different"? You should have just said that in the first place. It would have saved a lot of confusion.

Sure, absolutely. What they don't get to do in my campaign is ignore their patron entirely because they like the Warlock mechanics.

Final say in what sense? How far does that go? I can think of several ridiculous extremes that could follow from your claim.

Because in practice most GMs aren't merciless tyrants looking for squeeze their players into submission. Sorry to burst your bubble on that.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

I really feel it out to be. It's good enough for everyone else in the industry.

Probably, but I don't see what that has to do with the "D&D is undermonetized" comment.

Hence, the discussion. If the houserule isn't working, you talk and work out a better one.

And I've explained it to you more than once: that's how it works in trad games. The GM does not have to abide by player demands for houserules (though they should listen to their players and work with to find a compromise). That's just how it is. You think you wouldn't have to talk to your GM...

I don't see why a clear houserule wouldn't be a cleaner solution to the problem.

Why would the kobold necessarily have a magic dagger customized to their needs? To me it makes more sense for them to just use the best tool they have available, especially as the dort of item you're describing would IMO require a significant magical forging infrastructure to create. How...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I'd add A5e's spell-less ranger to that list too. Great class! My wife's playing one in our current game.

Reverse those priorities and you have my opinion.

We definitely lost something valuable in the game after 2e, that's true.

Agreed. Best systems for this are designed for it. ACKS II is a good example. But you can get a lot done with modifications and elbow grease, even in 5e.

Well, everybody likes different things, and your game would not be any more fun for me than my game would likely be for you. Your mindset is is hard for me to understand, but I'm not going to go around giving you a hard time about it.

Like what? What "workaround" can you do that isn't a houserule? Like I said I really don't understand what you're asking for.

EN Publishing just finished a Kickstarter for a new A5e book explicitly dealing with those parts of the game. Pets & Sidekicks.

Fine for me, but people sometimes get funny about being told to play another game.
