The only way to fix this problem IMO is to convince the content creators that there is profit (and by profit I mean $$) in depicting realistic consequences to violent action. I don't see appealing to anything else being enough to overcome inertia.

Yeah, in a more realistic game Dex should affect all weapons, and Str should be used a minimum score for certain weapons. But Dex is already so powerful I'd rather mess with the ability score vs skill system than give it more power directly.

They don't see it that way, and personally I believe how you play at your table, including what rules you use and don't use, matters far more than some Platonic ideal of perfect, 100% within the printed rules play, both for discussion and any other purpose. But you and I have disagreed on this...

Houserules are always an option (unless you're chained to organized play), and thus always matter. I've pretty much never not used them or had them on the table.

Says you. I never thought they were dumb, and continue to use psionics in my current games regularly.

We used psionics in 1e, but only rarely because you had to roll high enough. We did try every time. Personally I preferred the 1e psionicist class from Dragon #78 or the 2e psionicist from the Complete Psionics Handbook.

Which is fine in my view, so long as the player actually did know that.

Honestly, I wish more trad games had that level of advice and degree of intentionality. It's nothing but a good in RPG design IMO.

My play is not informed by 5.5, or even 5.0, nearly as much as it is by 1e and 2e. Doesn't matter what version I'm actually playing.
