Or yours, depending on point of view.

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Losing a class feature, even temporarily, is "destroying your character"? What do your wizards do when they leave their spellbook at the inn (intentionally silly example)? Give up?

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

I don't run modules or enforce plots. Maybe that's the difference.

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

This is where we disagree. IMO if your priority is making sure the player's cool superpowers for their PC are maintained just as the player wishes regardless of the fiction, then you are minimizing what I consider the most important part of the game: exploring a consistent imaginary world...

You think I don't talk up Level Up enough? I guess I could do more.

I could care less about 5.5. It is still a 5e game (with significant improvements IMO).

IMO because your power comes from someone else. Just like clerics and paladins. I've explained this many times. Fiction first in my game. You are free to disagree with my subjective feelings on the subject with your own subjective feelings on the subject.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Investors and corporate culture are a problem that can and often do affect customers in a negative way, huh?

Depends on what they're working together for. I'm not interested in collaborative storytelling as the goal.

Sure, but most of it doesn't come up in any particular game. It's a book of options. I still play 5e.

To me that just seems like an excuse to ignore the patron so you can use the favored mechanics.

I play a slightly modified version of Level Up, a 5e ruleset. It hardly has zero relation.

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

I would say if that person doesn't level up quickly and get a lot of help, their kingdom is going to stay intact for long.

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

I play all my D&D and D&D-like games with a 1e/2e attitude. Narrative weight is a thing, and the rules are never more important than the fiction

Why? That demand makes no sense to me.

I would say how important those rules are is much more based on what the table wants than how much more rules support the game gives you.

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Sure, but probably under a different GM. You can't make the GM run their game against their will.

Or find a different GM who wants to pursue the coffee shop idea.
