Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

Sorcerers, warlocks, bards and druids get rather more text in those early levels, which would make them hard to fit on similarly sized cards.

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

Yep. The only thing different about this game is it uses a card instead of a character sheet. It's just an easier way to present the same data, not a different game.

D&D 5E (2014) Best third party campaign books - recommend me some

Conan isn't the only Swords and Sorcery. Elric wields magic. The Grey Mouser wields magic.

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

Nope, just carry straight on to level four, explaining how to transfer the data from the cards onto a character sheet at that point. Simple and natural.

Emergent storytelling is a skill even some veterans could stand to learn.

D&D General Homebrew or Premade Campaigns?

Yeah, put my down for a mixture of (usually heavily modified) premade and homebrew as well.

I mean, it did look to be communicating with the "flies" (I notice we are still taking ques from real world biology here). It has been suggested that it controlled the ticks to engineer their escape. It may even have been able to implant a suggestion in Nibs. Whatever, I would suggest it's...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

"You're going to need a bigger card." That's the fundamental issue. The point is to have all the information the player needs on the card, so they don't need to refer to the rules. But the amount of things a character can do grows rapidly with level, so level 4 won't fit on the same card as...

    White Dwarf Reflections #28

Are you thinking of action point based manoeuvre systems? Possible I guess, but I think there were others around at the time, including some mini-games in White Dwarf itself. Snapshot and Azhanti High Lightning used action points, but Car Wars may possibly have been the first to apply them to...

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

Didn’t care for it actually - it was too obvious for my taste. Prefer Pythons to Brooks.

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

I grew up in the wrong country to have ever played the Oregon Trail. Which may explain different mindsets. It’s hard for me to imagine not being within a day’s journey of an inn, so the only thing to not run out of is money.

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

I think D&D is the only place that has ever happened. In the fiction torches are either created as required or picked up from convenient sconces. So far as I know, miners used tallow candles before lanterns were invented.

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

I read the book when I was 8! And talking of upper middle class I have seen it on some public school reading lists. But I guess there hasn’t been a TV or movie version since the 90s, so I guess the muppets killed it off. Shame they couldn’t do the same for Christmas Carol, we still seem to get...
