Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Yeah, there were a couple of external shuttle shots. They did cut away from showing the shuttle leaving the Enterprise, but we have seen that before. Personally, I think limited budgets encourage creativity. Throw too much money at a thing and you end up with a lot more FX shots and a lot less...

    Violence and (Geek) Entertainment

And none of Conan’s injuries are ever life changing, which most of them should have been if we were being realistic. That is if he survived the infection in an age without antibiotics. In the Hawkeye TV series Clint is dealing with the life changing injuries he has received through...

Which is the biggest unreality of all. The real world doesn’t fit into nice neat narratives where things happen for a reason. Barry goes for a walk and a tree falls on them. The end.

And what’s the point of the story? Entertainment. It doesn’t really have anything to say about the real world. He just wants us to look at pain, suffering and trauma and be entertained by it. That seems pretty pornographic to me.

Voyager did it. I suppose TNG did it too, although being Picard he was more infiltrate the bad guys rather than phaser them in a vest. Janeway is never happier than when she is running around with a big gun.

But it was set in 1981! UFO was ahead of it's time in so many ways.

Thing with genre films: SF, fantasy, supers, they have an inherent air of unreality. - so you are unlikely to confuse anything in them for reality. The early F&F films, on the other hand, were less obviously unreal, and we have had problems with people trying to imitate them.

Gomez avoided the Nevermore event. Maybe because he considered that also appropriation but didn't want to call it out in the circumstances?

And the same situation applies for any dual classed character. The starting age is simply for whatever class you chose first. It doesn't matter if you are outside the suggested starting age for any classes you take subsequently, because you are not starting as that class - clearly starting age...

This is one of those things that becomes a bigger issue the better you know the place. So I will have issues if it concerns London, such as when a Thor2 gets the number of tube stops to Greenwich wrong, or Moon Knight has a ridiculous accent, but I wouldn't notice anything if the setting is New...

Decent script =/= more realistic. Some really great movies play with reality and expectations.

Which is highly subjective. What breaks your suspension of disbelief is probably very different to mine. As a scientist, I have to make a determined effort to switch science brain off for practically every movie I see. Nope, ever heard of surrealism? Ever seen Head? There is absolutely no...

    Violence and (Geek) Entertainment

Way to point out the bleedin obvious. “Superhero” and “realism” are diametric opposites. But that’s not a problem in itself. Entertainment is not supposed to be realistic, it’s supposed to be entertaining. The overwhelming majority of movies are not realistic, the superhero genre is just more up...

    Violence and (Geek) Entertainment

Same was true in the original stories. Conan could take enough punishment to kill a human many times over, and still fight as well as ever. That’s where hit points come from.

They did say they regretted killing her character off in the first series, so I can't say I was massively surprised to see her back in some fashion.

I remember thinking the same thing about the A Team TV series in the 80s. However, now I'm older and wiser, I can see the other side. Stories need to have conflict without being bogged down by realistic consequences. And it's often the gratuitous violence that is "pornographic". If we consider...
