    Non-magical area attacks

By raw, I'm pretty sure you are ruling it correctly. To the best of my knowledge, there's no rule about hitting interposing objects. That said, it seems totally legit to claim that you must first hit the arrow slit. The obvious thing would be Dex vs 10 AC (the AC/Ref of a tiny object) with...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

But I name all my gnomes Finbiddle'); DROP TABLE Classes; the Third Fourth, etc. It's a long line of troublesome tinkerer gnomes.

    New CB Power Card Pics!

    Nice and clean, IMO.

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Oh I agree that some limit should be imposed. Just that 20 is very very low. I'll also bet that the WotC servers won't have 99.9% uptime.

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

I'm a mac user. With the advent of processors with virtualization hardware built in for quite a while now, multiplatform hasn't really been an issue for several years.

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

I'm still at a loss to see how this new CB is an improvement over the old one, and that's what has me most annoyed. I certainly don't see why WotC expects annoy to welcome these changes.

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Based on those numbers, it would take a bit over two days (~55 hours) for 10 machines creating a new character every 10 seconds to fill 1TB (assuming character files are about the same as the old CB). That's not a real convincing reason to limit to 20 characters. I'm really not feeling the...

    Yeah, that is insultingly small.

The Legality and Difficulties in Harvesting Compendium Data (Hypothetical)

I'm pretty sure you can. The person use nature of the copying puts it into a pretty safe area. Its the same way I can buy a CD and then rip the contents so I can listen in my car. What is illegal is to distribute those copies. edit: http://w2.eff.org/IP/eff_fair_use_faq.php

The Legality and Difficulties in Harvesting Compendium Data (Hypothetical)

Well, copyrights were created to prevent the selling of someone else's work.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

The last significant project to come out was the MB in August last year. So it could be that they spent a bunch of other time doing random stuff before starting this project, but I don't think that helps the idea that WotC's DDi team will suddenly be putting out tons of new applications.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

Not to rain on your parade, but note that it has apparently taken WotC a year and change to port CB from one platform to another very similar platform, and even doing that is incomplete. I'm sure the monster builder will come out next, but how long will that take? Will it ever get around to...

I seem to be missing the point on the online CB

It wasn't just that they didn't deliver as it was that first, WotC spent a lot of money on the project (I think the numbers are around multiple millions of dollars) and second the code that was received was so poor that WotC's in house team had to trash the whole thing and start over.

I seem to be missing the point on the online CB

In fairness, they tried doing that originally and it backfired spectacularly.

The Legality and Difficulties in Harvesting Compendium Data (Hypothetical)

It's trivially easy, but it does violate the ToU agreement.

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

There's a big difference between services and products. Prior to this point, the CB was more or less on a product model, with a subscription service for updates. Now it is transitioning from that to a purely service model. As a consumer, I really dislike that sort of thing. Some things are...

I seem to be missing the point on the online CB

Yeah, macs as old as 4 years can run the regular character builder. Anything with an intel chip inside can run windows.

What if Dragon and Dungeon go online only?

They aren't worth pirating, so its less of a big deal for WotC. [/snark]

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

I'm a Mac user and this certainly doesn't excite me. At least not in a good way. Locking out useful functions like exporting the character file and tying ability to use the program to having an internet account strike me as not great things.

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll finish the monster builder before they decide to switch platforms again. That would be cool. I must say that a big announcement that the CB is at best moving sideways isn't all that exciting. I'm not a big fan of the idea of renting applications. Running an...
