The DMG1 has the rules for monster creation, while DMG2 has the rules for minions and traps. That said, you should also download the DMG update as it changes the rules somewhat. Using the Character builder is not a good idea. Characters have far too much complexity relative to monsters.

Well, the difference is that truesight needs line of sight, while blindsight needs line of effect. Both are still in the compendium FWIW.

Yes, that's correct. Not as of yet. There might be one in the works, but WotC isn't talking about what new tools they are currently working on.

I think its worth it. The character generator alone is worth the cost of a short subscription. I'd recommend a getting the three month subscription and seeing if it works for you. It's only ~25 bucks, so if you decide you hate it, you haven't lost that much money.
