D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

PC, I am so totally stealing the misty slip 'n slide room and illusory maze room! Completely awesome! I'm DMing for guys who have been playing decades longer than I have and want to keep them on their toes. This thread is a constant treasure-trove of ideas. Thanks to you and the group for...

    Ghosts, telekinesis and manifestation

Ghosts make for awesome (from the DM's POV) recurring villains. The malevolence ability is actually a lot of fun. My players thought they had defeated one and I didn't bring him up for weeks and weeks. Until a random dwarf attacked them during dinner. It wasn't till halfway through the fight...

Geography, Geology, and Cartography. Oh my!

Great ideas all. Thanks for the links and the suggestions. So what fantastic locations have you used in your campaigns and how did the PC's respond to them?

Geography, Geology, and Cartography. Oh my!

Interesting stuff. Thanks all. And FreeXenon, it's not a low magic campaign. But I'm definitely not averse to fear of or descrimination towards magic users.

Geography, Geology, and Cartography. Oh my!

So my game is taking place in my own home-brewed world (typical medieval European D&D) and I want to populate it with some unique landscapes, ruins, rock formations, locations, etc... I have the ones currently relevant to the high-level story arc, but I want some other stuff in there too to make...

    JollyDoc's Kingmaker-Updated 7/4/2011

Wow! Just stumbled across this and am thoroughly loving it. I really enjoy the flavor of discovering the unknown and establishing a nation. I've gotta find this AP. Now to read your older stuff JollyDoc.

    When Is PC Death Worst?

So I've been fortunate enough to play in consistently good games. And I've played some characters that have died. And they typically died due to my own mistakes or playing the character true to form. I always feel worse as a GM when a character dies, but more for sympathetic reasons than for the...

What's your favorite RPG that you've never actually played?

So my group and I have only ever played D&D. But I'd love to play Star Wars: SAGA Edition, Stargate, Serenity, and PF. My group's just not interested. :.-(

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Minions?

Very good advice. Thanks! I guess I was looking for any monsters or class combos that more naturally fit the role. Anything with low AC or HP that can still do some damage to the heroes before they're slaughtered? The best I was able to come up with so far was a couple of rat swarms that had...

    D&D Starter sets

Couldn't agree more. The 3.0 set was what got me started in the hobby. My friends and I spent many hours going through the packaged adventures (much to the chagrin of my wife). I got the 3.5 set for my brother and was a little disappointed with it. The minis were nicer than the counters, but...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Minions?

Admittedly, I have had very, very little exposure to 4E, but my impression of the system's use of minions is that they're easy to dispatch but they can actually deal some damage to the PC's before they're killed. I'd like ideas for some enemies like that in my 3.5 game. The PC's are currently...

    D&D Novels

Sorry to bring this back up a week after the last post. But one of my favorites is The Cleric Quintet by Salvatore. I like it much more than all the Drizz't stuff. And it's a single anthology so it's a little less daunting.

    D&D Novels

One more, if your interested in FR. You may try the "Best of the Realms" anthologies, or Realms of...(War, the Dead, Valor, etc...) They're all short stories and can give you a taste of various authors. I'm not a huge FR fan, but I do enjoy some of the fiction.

    D&D Novels

I'll second the recommendation of Feist. I like his stuff. I also enjoy Warhammer's Gortrek & Felix series.

    D&D Novels

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been tempted to pick up some of his stuff for a while but always put it back. I've been burned too many times in the past by blindly picking up unknown authors.

    D&D Novels

You may give Elaine Cunningham's FR works a try too. I like her as much, if not more, than Salvatore. Especially Evermeet. Personally, I avoid Ed Greenwood. But that's just my personal taste. He is, after all, the originator of the Realms.

    Fun Stuff

There are a lot of threads currently on the first page concerning stuff away from the gaming table. That's all well and good, but I'm bored with it all. So what cool things are going on in your games? Regardless of system or edition, what (in game) has you coming back to the table? New PC...
