    Essentials Cleric

You may be right - and maybe they have addressed it with better designed feats (or what have you) in the Essentials line. Short of only designing new feats that are less fidldly, there really is no way to fix what they have already put it out. And remember, compatibility was one of the main...

    Essentials Cleric

Keep in mind the Red Box deals with level 1 and 2. It's not meant to give you complete builds. Just an introduction into the game by limiting the information overload of feats, options and other info that wouldn't apply at those levels.

    Essentials Cleric

Given that they changed MM to be more consistent with older editions, I hope this is the approache they take! I would welcome it!

    Essentials Cleric

I wonder this too...Just because you CAN play the original 4e builds doesn't mean that people should or would. Does the original class designs get played by only a small percentage of the people now with the most wanting to use the new designs? Time will tell. I guess either way it makes no...

    Essentials Cleric

I'm looking forward to the Essentials. I've long felt that there just wasn't enough variation within a given class. Taking the cleric for instance, your build type may affect some of your encounter powers but ultimately you were still a standard stock cleric. Now the subtypes are the answer I...

    Oublivae

Wow, what a fantastic demon lord! I just read the interview with Steve Townsend regarding this demon lord and I think this is a fantastic design! Link here: Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (3 Questions: Oublivae) I particularly like the idea of starting a...

    July Errata is up

The human wizard in our group has MM too. We are level 28 and he still has Wizards Fury (I think thats the name - it lets you cast MM as a minor action for the encounter). He uses MM quite a bit and it packs a wallop.

    July Errata is up

Yep, but the numbers are still too low. They simply can't make it on the first couple of rounds and need a REALLY high number on the 3rd. 4 rounds is about average. Our group has discovered that target removal is an effective tactic. Removing one monster is like lowering the Encounter level...

    July Errata is up

Changing gears here... Does anyone think Maze requires errata? You make an Int check against the Wizards defence. We are level 28 and most monsters have no chance of succeeding on the first 3 round and its not uncommon from some monsters to finally escape on round 5, meaning they have burned...

    No not usually.

    Impelling Force

Forced movement (slide, pull and push) do not provoke oportunity attacks. Also, it doesn't matter how the bard does it. Mechanically it makes no difference and because of that its up to the player and/or the DM to decide upon. Fluff is fluff and has no impact on mechanics of the game. Once...

    Got me an Orcus today!

Dragonblade, When we were house hunting, I had 3 criteria in mind - 1) At least 2 extra bedrooms upstairs for our 2 kids (which have now filled them) 2) near the centre of town as I hate driving and 3) a room big enough to support my expansive hobby, my players (number is currently 6 players +...

What is going on with the release schedule? Now metaplot?

Honestly, I'm pretty stoked about the Monster Vault - which is essentially (get it?) redesigned monsters, many of which are from the MM1. This is how they will update the MM - of course some of the monsters will be new. I'm kind of hoping they redo the dragons, maybe even go so far as to make...

    Running Epic Tier Campaigns

Like I said, I hope thats the case. However, I have yet to see anything official about them updating the old statblocks. To my knowledge, the quote was something along the lines of "we are implementing the new stat blocks", which could be taken as, we are having issue adding the MM3 monsters...

    Running Epic Tier Campaigns

My gut feeling on this, is that it won't happen. When the Essentials line releases, the product Monster Vault has a description that talks about new variations of old monsters. This is how I expect them to update the old monsters to the latest damage/defense/HP thresholds. On the other...

Yeah, I don't get why people are so worked up over Meta-plot...

    Dungeoncraft Articles

Terradave, Your comment about getting advice on Epic play is right on the money. A lot of campaigns are reaching this tier by this point and it has yet to be really addressed in any 4e product.

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

@PKitty's group I found this thread to be a boatload of fun to read and its been really inspirational. Our current campaign is slated to wrap up in 2 months at which point we will be starting a new campaign. I was thinking of trying something similar to this (assuming I get at least 1 regular...

    Got me an Orcus today!

On a side note - I've followed PirateCat's campaign commentary for some time. Assuming I can get buy in from at least one of my players to help support the idea, I was thinking of doing something similar. How does this tie in with this thread? Well, I was thinking it might be a good idea to...
