The Hybrid Swordmage/Hybrid Wizard will work much better. It will let you use your swordmage implements with your wizard spells. Many of the wizard utility powers work awesome with the swordmage - such as stoneskin, blur.

I think the change was specifically to use proper 4e terms. in the first wording, there is no mention of immediate interrupt. Therefore, the minotaur could do it as a free action on his turn or durning another persons turn and there is no limit to the number of times he could do it per round...

That's a really good catch Dracosuave. Not crystal clear, and certainly not the way most tables play but I wonder if that is RAI. WotC would do well to clarify this issue and it would also help to reduce healing a little bit.

I keep thinking that a melee character with the ability to summon creatures (and make use of their intrinsic nature) would be pretty cool. Plus, imagine a swordmage with access to Blur, Stoneskin and other utilities from the Wizard class. Sounds pretty good to me!

We use 75% monster hp's and monsters add 1/2 level bonus to damage. Its worked out well for us. We don't touch the player side of things since we use the Character Builder and this means the players don't have to mess around with what gets printed from that.
