    D&D 5E (2014) New legends and lore.....multiclassing sneak peak

Sorry to say, but I disagree. He clearly states that: "Your overall levels in classes that cast spells determines how many spells you can cast." So as a Mage3/Cleric3, that means he'd be treated as a 6th level character in terms of how many spells he can cast. My hypothetical reversal makes it...

    D&D 5E (2014) New legends and lore.....multiclassing sneak peak

I can't for the life of me figure out how multiclassing spellcasters work. So, a 3rd-level mage/3rd-level cleric... * casts spells per day as a 6th-level character * can prepare spells available to a 3rd-level wizard or to a 3rd-level cleric As to the first, there is no such thing as casting...

D&D 5E (2014) Idea to handle the "ghoul problem"

Yes but that's not the point, is it? They all have an extra bonus beyond just the ability score itself. Only saving throws (up until now) have just the ability score without an extra bonus. That's why they lag behind and that's why Mearls said in the postmortem that this would change. That is...

D&D 5E (2014) Idea to handle the "ghoul problem"

There is nothing inherently good about "ability score is all you need", especially when attacks, save DCs, and skills all work differently. To apply that goal singularly to saving throws is backwards and problematic - which is why Mearls now is also stepping away from it. If the answer to why it...

D&D 5E (2014) Idea to handle the "ghoul problem"

I'd say you hit the nail on the head. In 3e and 2e, ghouls have three attacks but they're also fairly inaccurate (a +2 bonus/THAC0 19). On top of that, PC saving throws will improve at higher levels, sometimes quite drastically so. Next has a bounded accuracy thing going on and the ghouls attack...

D&D 5E (2014) Idea to handle the "ghoul problem"

While there are some creature abilities that work like this (e.g. dragon fear), ghoul paralysis is not one of them. In 3e you have to save with every single hit.

D&D 5E (2014) Legends and Lore 6/23: System vs. Content in D&D Next

I think people have shown quite a bit of patience already. The fact of the matter is that this playtest is going slow. Very slow. Here's Bruce Baugh's opinion, for example. I can also tell you that I have personally co-written and lead the playtest of a fairly crunchy RPG (Legends of the Wulin...

Pathfinder 1E Fighting a Medusa with mirrors?

This is so punitive, it becomes better to just keep your eyes closed and accept the blindness penalty. At least then you can still carry a shield and don't run the risk of people sundering your fragile little sheet of glass.

Ah right. Carry on then. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) I think I miss flat-footed, talk me out of it?

Fair enough but my point is that the "needless" argument isn't very strong. Just because Chris asked for counter-arguments doesn't mean all arguments brought forth carry a lot of weight.

    D&D 5E (2014) I think I miss flat-footed, talk me out of it?

When a guy says he feels his game needs something... it's really not up to you or me to say it's "needless", now is it? And the problem with the advantage mechanic is that it might be easy, but it also lacks granularity. There is no difference between surprising the AC 15 heavy armor guard and...

    D&D 5E (2014) June 20 Q&A Legendary Creature Questions

First of all, what works in a real-world myth doesn't necessarily works in a collaborative game. Saying "it's just as in the legends" doesn't prove it's good, nor does it prove it's bad. It says exactly nothing. Second, why are you bringing up one-shotting a boss? That is impossible now thanks...

    D&D 5E (2014) June 17 Legend & Lore - Playtesting Dragons

You can use the same action multiple times, it's just the lair-heal that is limited to once per round. All others can be used multiple times per round, even consecutively if you want.

D&D 5E (2014) Next Q&A: Humans subraces, Wound Modules, Halfling Barbarians.

The idea that a halfling barbarian ought to be weaker than a half-orc barbarian is kind of ridiculous when the game clearly gives them the exact same strength score: 20. Oh, sure, they'll start slightly below that value, but that's where they both will end up, together with all the humans...

    D&D 5E (2014) Attack cantrips are a waste of the DM's time

I agree that some spells should simply be attack rolls. This is not even something unique to 4e - I know 3e and 2e both also had spells that involved attack rolls (rays, touch attacks, etc.). When a spell sprays an area and can be partially dodged, or when it affects the soul and might be held...

Obscure Warlord power query - A Plan Comes Together

End of current turn seems to be the intent. You knock a creature prone and daze it, which means that if wants to stand up that's the only thing it can do. That makes it basically a stunning effect in disguise. Alternatively the target can make an attack or something, but then it remains prone...

    Character Sheet Contest Finalists

Brian Morgens' sheet looks nice in a "radial xbox menu" kind of way, it reminds me of Mass Effect a lot. It's just somewhat of a shame that it has info like hair color take up a prominent place in the center. It's not really something I'd look up often. I also dislike the skill section - that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dwellers on Shadow

This is an interesting opinion to highlight because I know there's also a lot of people who get frustrated with how stagnant D&D has become with Next (thus far, "Beta is Beta" and all that). Many Wandering Monster articles over the past year are practically just copy-paste jobs of AD&D and 3e...

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L: Subclasses

Nope. This is about the fifth time now that they've said that Warlords are not going to be their own class. They did say, way back, that every class that appeared in a (first) PHB would make it into Next on launch, but later they clarified that they meant the name and general concept would make...
