    Adventures in Pyramids?

Can't believe no-one has mentioned H3; "PYRAMID of shadows" for 4E! Or did I miss it in the lists above?

    D&D 4E Some Thoughts on 4e

Rituals are a great idea but the time and material component cost nerf them badly. I am thinking of allowing a bit of vancian magic back in to 4e, to do with rituals. If during any rest, a spell caster completes 95% of any ritual, he can trigger its effect anytime and only pays the material...

Forked Thread: Name exactly what 4E is "missing"

Love about 4E; the ease of DMing Hate; 4E is not one game; it is TWO. The first is the Roleplaying game and the second is the tactical board-game and the two don't gel very well. Not that 3E was a great deal better but somehow the balance seemed more customisable.

Are some of the basic elements of medieval combat too weak in D&D?

It was actually double mail that allowed fighters to stop using shields and focus on two handed weapons; with single mail, no shield= dead fighter. Two handed weapons then stimulated armour makers to produce plate to counter the increased power of weapons like the longsword (which historically...

    Spellbooks as scrolls

Thanks for that; you are right about getting it out but I intend to have a featherfall scroll stuck to the inside of my buckler for this purpose so it is always ready. Then as long as I have a free hand I won't get smashed by a fall.

    Spellbooks as scrolls

To expand on scroll questions; does anyone know if the casting time of a spell on a scroll is always a standard action? e.g. what if the spell on the scroll is something like featherfall that has a normal casting time of an immediate or swift action? i.e can you cast feather fall on a scroll...

Help - how would these NPCs react? (a bit long)

The points raised about are excellent; extend them as follows; The pirates will not just accept the PCs as leaders because they are not members of the pirate fraternity. They are also not going to attack the PCs because that would also weaken them and allow someone else to take advantage...

    Alternatives to "Save the World"

I have always wanted to run a campaign based on the metaplot of Babylon 5; The basic idea is that the Gods create wars and strife not to win territory or gain power but because they want the sentient races who live in the world to CHOOSE between their ideologies; so one of the best outcomes is...

    Forked Thread: DM Entitlement...

I have been roleplaying since the early 1980s but had a ten year break from 1990-2000. I DMed in both the 1984-1990 period and the 2000-2008 period and there has been a sea-change in the way players now play RPGs. I think alot of it IS to do with money; in the 1980s very few of my players...

    GSL updates

I am hoping this WON'T decend into the usual edition war. If you feel WoTC or Paizo are the devil incarnate, I am very happy for you; just DON'T post! What I want are rumours and hard info on the GSL re-launch announced by Le Rouse et al. He has stated that a few of the changes were informally...

    Changeover poll

The sampling bias in this poll is inevitable; people are self-selecting whether to respond/vote/post and so it is likely that those who have an axe to grind are more likely to vote. Having said this, I sense that 4E is MUCH more polarising than any previous edition of D&D and suspect that the...

Simple defenses for pirate ships wanted

This problem is most easily solved by having the pirates worship a murderous sea-god; some sort of blood drenched local deity who has limited control of magic on the island the pirate base is situated on. In return for sacrificing the crews of ships they capture, the sea-god prevents...

    1st level DnD adventures

And my guess is they are too busy producing rules splatbooks to make adventures, because the latter type of product don't sell so well. A pity most 3PPs are still tangled up with GSL problems to put anything out; Goodman and Adamant aside. All in all it means we, the customers, are the losers.

    Started With Fighting Fantasy Books

Has anyone ever played the 3,5 D&D modules Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Forest of Doom or Deathtrap Dungeon by Myriador? (see http://www.myriador.com/index.html) I always wanted to buy these modules but by the time I got the money together, the site seemed to have died. Does anyone know if...

    Help me find Dwarven Warcries!

Gimli did indeed shout what someone said earlier but in Khuzdul (Dwarvish) and this is; "Barak Khazud! Khazud armeni" (The axes of the Dwarves! The Dwarves are upon you!")

Goodman is clearly going to the GSL.

Dragonbait; feel free as you are not quoting me really. This is one of my favourite quips, but I can't remember where I got it.

    How Many Gamers Exist...

I think the 15 million figure is not too high for active gamers world-wide because so many gamers I know who have been playing uninterrupted for 20 years just use one system and never buy anything new because they are happy. They are basically completely out of the loop in terms of sales...

How long does stuff last after death/collapse of an empire?

Materials are very important to the longevity of any object; stonehenge is made of Sarcen stone; one of the hardest stones on earth. This is probably why it is essentially undamaged. Runes carved into stone in the dark ages are now pretty hard to read in many places, expecially in cold...
