Does a PC in Total Defense get an AoO vs someone who charges them?

Another situation for the same question. Say we have Bob the fighter. On his turn, he decides to fight defensively. He gets a +2 bonus to AC and a -4 penalty to his attack rolls until he acts again. So if Jim the Evil Archer is within reach and shoots an arrow at Bob, Bob would get an AoO vs...

Stacking Death Touch with a unarmed or other melee attack

I'd say you can stack it with an unarmed strike, and that you are considered "armed" for the purpose of drawing AoO's. One thing though, IMO, you couldn't "activate" your death touch AND make an unarmed attack (other than the regular melee touch attack described in the power's description) in...

Best way to keep from being charmed?

Well it helps, but not a lot. If LordofBlah's problem was that his DM puts to sleep every member of the party, then he'd be set with elves, yes. Maitre D

Most power in a game: Multiclassing?

Usually, multi-classing spellcasters will be at a disadvantage. For other types, it depends on what kind of high-level power / skills you'll be sacrificing when you'll multi-class (come to think of it, its exactly why multi-classing spellcasters will generally be weaker, because high-level...

a Wizard finds a new spellbook... now what?

*cue Allelujah music* That's the part i've been missing. Thanks a million, Daniel, for that very informative post. ah, i'll get to that page eventually :0) Thanks again, Maitre D

a Wizard finds a new spellbook... now what?

But what would be the advantage of making a newfound spellbook your own (ie MoF rule, which has a much higher DC) when you can usually just take 10 and automatically memorize spells from a borrowed ( / newfound?) spellbook? Maitre D

    [stupid ?] Wiz/Sor & defensive fighting

ungh. Not sure that would work, sincethe standard action you took this round was casting a spell. Touching the enemy was just part of the spellcasting. Now, if you were to cast a touch attack spell on round 1, THEN on round two, move in and touch, i wouldn't see any problem with it. Maitre D

    [stupid ?] Wiz/Sor & defensive fighting

Likewise, the Total Defense action is a standard action, ergo, no spellcasting there either. Now don't ask me how that works when you're hasted. Maitre D

a Wizard finds a new spellbook... now what?

the PHB states that learning a spell from a borrowed spellbook is a spellcraft check with a DC of 15 + spell level. I think this means that the wizard you borrowed it from is there when you study his book, explaining his various notes. That's why, according to Magic of Faerun, the DC for...

    [June] What are you playing?

Still playing my oldest living PC, Uriel Sevteline, elven mage, but in other games i'm playing a hafling sorceror/rogue and a human wizard aiming for loremaster. I've made a half-elven fighter barbarian and a human monk, but i probably won't be using them. Oh yeah and i'm trying to DM an evil...

Which fighting style does your fighter use?

I've always been partial to sword & shield, being a damage wuss, but my fighters are usually equipped for every situation (ranged / medium weapon and shield / 2-handed for maximum damage)... Maitre D

    IQ to INT equivalent

it was "supposed" to be, one time or another, than INT X 10 = IQ, but that relation seems to work only for 6 < INT < 20 (IMO).

a Wizard finds a new spellbook... now what?

Hello all. Like the title says, a wizard finds a spellbook wherein he finds multiple spells he hasn't seen before. Things to consider (please correct me if I am wrong): 1) He needs to succeed at a spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell level) to see if he can learn the new spell 2) He needs to...

    Wizards spell selection

One thing you might be overlooking is that Wizards do not necessarily have to add spells to their spellbook to learn new ones. If they find another spellcaster's spellbook, they can learn spells from that spellbook also. Granted, it requires spellcraft checks, but the average wizard (maxed...

    Arrows

In the PHB, there are "arrows" listed under short bow, composite short bow, longbow, composite longbow, and bolts listed under light crossbow, heavy crossbow, hand crossbow and repeating crossbow... i'll assume that means there is a type of ammunition for every type of bow/xbow there is... Using a buckler

Wizard's response Hello, just to close this interesting debate, here are the answers i received from WOTC. 1) Does the penalty for wearing a buckler apply when using a 2-handed melee weapon? yes 2) Do you benefit from a buckler (on your left arm) when you are holding something in your left...
