Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

No, I understood that LEGO as a whole re-invented itself as an adult toy collectibles company which is why they sell architecture buildings, flowers, paintings and 1000 dollar Death Stars. The existence of mini-figs doesn't negate that the LEGO market and the playmobil market no longer overlap...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

LEGO's biggest profit makers are the massive, boutique sets designed for well off adults. Playmobil is what those adults get their friends and family when they have a toddler's birthday. It's a kids toy still.

A reminder, as people were insisting that D&D was on the path to microtransactions, WotC eliminated DnDBeyond microtransactions.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

And you still could John Hight! A movie that's available on THREE streaming platforms in the US and in the top 50 on two of them (Netflix and Paramount) despite being years old. It would also be a good way to push Levy-Netflix to push forward with the TV show they bought from Paramount

D&D General Thoughts on HD and Blood Magic

I was going to suggest the same thing. The HD = the role and like Battle Master dice can be added to attack or damage or other things. I also wish the HD used dropped the current HP by that amount.

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

Or the game was designed, from day 1 with Gary, Dave and their groups to "make it up yourself" and not to be a strict dictionary or AP stylebook type of game

What is a West Marches game?

It's much more grounded. They're defending their families from invading elementals and others in a land where there are fire tornadoes, fast glacier surges, steam pits, etc. But everyone is starting as a simple 2024 baseline character with allowances for main branches of the 5e ecosystem as...

What is a West Marches game?

My campaign that starts next week is an East Marches (an inverted Westie). The danger mostly comes to the players. That makes it a bit of Tower Defense meets West Marches, as I can run it with a single player or the group, dialing the dangers based on who is present, but not changing the...

US Tariffs: $80-$200 Surcharge On All Packages Regardless of Price

If you're dialing back ordering physical stuff from creators one thing you can do is shift that spend to subscriptions or digital support. I finally did that towards EN World itself today.

D&D General D&D is now Steampunk (poll)

It's a twelve-year old setting with 9 campaigns. It got so much easier when the 5e artificer showed up. I had a massive amount of smoggy tech handwritten prior to that.

D&D General D&D is now Steampunk (poll)

I run smog-punk, which is dirty steampunk, in my goblin lands, but it takes a lot of work to make the magic feel like dirty tek. There's not enough clockwork tech, springworks, pneumatics, etc for steampunk to be considered the default.

I loved Strixhaven and am looking forward to the upcoming second Magic set. My hope is we get a nice Eberron-ish expansion book with more guidance for social play and more about the outside of the school.

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

If Critical Role (and their audience) didn't believe they were good designers they wouldn't have poached them from Wizards. The evidence is that Perkins and Crawford are in fact respected for their design.
