D&D General So what about the SRDs?

It explicitly covers your invented scenario "Once something has been published under a CC license, licensees may continue using it according to the license terms for the duration of applicable copyright and similar rights." There is absolutely no situation where something could be 'withdrawn.'...

D&D General So what about the SRDs?

Morrus said this earlier, but if you are a publisher looking to make money off of a product using any SRD and any license (OGL, ORC, CC or other) consult a lawyer that specializes in IP, gaming and/or open licenses. While the whims of the internet can get you started do not press publish unless...

D&D General So what about the SRDs?

Except of course the Commons addresses this https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/cclicenses/#:~:text=The%20licenses%20and%20CC0%20cannot,you%20later%20stop%20distributing%20it. And a look at what that means -- their tl;dr is that the new release can only EXPAND material not withdraw...

D&D General So what about the SRDs?

If one org can remove things from the CC that means any org could. It would destroy the very concept of the Commons. And that's why no org will do it.

D&D General So what about the SRDs?

If Wizards were to attempt to show that the CC is revocable it would invalidate licenses from companies that make the multi-billion dollar Hasbro look quiant.

D&D General So what about the SRDs?

I think they assumed people would know that listing a name in an SRD doesn't give people the rights to all forms of the character/product. It's just a label, not an allowance to use all art, fiction, etc

D&D General So what about the SRDs?

One of the things that I expect Wizards to be working on is an FAQ or similar document. Recall that when they released 5.1 into the CC BY people on the internet exploded into thinking, wrongly, that meant they could use Strahd and Tasha however they wanted as if the mere mention of them by name...

    D&D 5E (2024) What are your 2024 houserules?

You can use Black Flag and A5E character options if you want, but you must know what the rules for that feature are. I've added Militia Actions to represent influencing a small squad of barely trained people to do things like throw bricks, block roads, etc. Short rests are 8 hours. Long rests...

WotC Chris Perkins announces Retirement from Dungeons and Dragons

It's notable that the "D&D is dying" clickbaiter that used bad Bookscan data never released any other Bookscan data despite supposedly having regular access to it. When someone profits off of negative information and refuses to update when the data would be accurate an assumption about the...

    D&D General Ships & spellcasters

Another idea would be a 2nd or 3rd level version of Control Weather (much smaller range, area off effect). In a magical world of sailing and piracy the wizards would craft this as a way to help the ships they are on when not in combat too

If every ship has a level five mage fireball does become a problem. But there are ways to get around that -- Longbows with a range 4 times the wizard, cannons with range 16 times the wizard Various water control spells to put out the burning. Mending to repair the sails in seconds.
