    At-Will Power Progression

Looking at the wizard spells and the paladin smites the attack powers all seem to appear at odd levels. I recall a quote from the designers that they want to a player to only have to make a small number of choices when they level up, so I don't think they'll want characters to choose more than...

    Collected DDXP Preview Pages

I think spells are listed by the level were they become accessible. My guess is that the wizard progression looks something like this: lvl 10: Choose a utility spell. Perhaps a feat as well? lvl 11: paragon path? lvl 12: ? feat? lvl 13: Choose an encounter spell lvl 14: ? feat? lvl 15: Choose...

    Collected DDXP Preview Pages

Thanks. A pack of gnolls looks like it'd be pretty nasty! I'm glad they've reduced the armour list - there were too many armour types that no-one ever took after the first couple of levels.

D&D 4E Are Talents Trees still in 4e?

Voss: I've never seen anything by WotC that said talent trees were in 4e apart from the comparison with SW Saga. When I first saw talent trees - in the Diablo II skill system, I think - I thought they were a great mechanic, but with time I've become a lot less impressed. Trees encourage a...

Wizard Spells 10-16 Two Page Spread

But Resistance is now colossally powerful against the right enemy. All the Pit Fiend does is fire damage! I can see why it's a daily.

So Int does NOT add to skills

I agree - if you look at the 3.5 fighter, without seeing the feat list, all that's there is a less-than-awesome skill list. There's nothing there to suggest that Int has much benefit for the 3e fighter at all. Also most high-Int 3e fighters I've seen choose to multiclass with something that...

    Ranger powers- is this correct?

At DDXP. I can't remember where I saw it though.

    Ranger powers- is this correct?

Piercing Strike would seem to be the Rogue's equivalent of Careful Attack, but with a less predictable effect. Looking at the monsters we've seen, targeting Ref rather than AC gives a bonus of between +0 to +7. Piercing Strike requires melee weapons though.

    (reverse) Engineering a Rogue?

How will this interact with the obvious optimization route of having three good stats covering the three defenses. The Rogue's Str, Dex and Chr covers all three, but the two builds in the preview have other options: the Brawny Rogue could go Str, Dex and Wis, and the Trickster Con, Dex and Cha...

    Ranger powers- is this correct?

Sneak attack does bit more damage though: +2d6 at first level. Of course, if the base weapon damage doesn't compare with the 1d10 longbow then that bonus goes away. One of the people who played the ranger said it was a glass cannon. Perhaps the rogue has some more survivability hidden in powers...

    Mearls watching his dragon die

I wonder is it's this Black Dragon (From the person who posted the character sheet photos yesterday.) It's a bit blurry, but I think it has 240 HP...

    Defenses: Crunching the numbers...

I think the +1 to defences is probably a human racial ability. All the other characters have multiple racial abilities, but the human only has the Human Perseverance feat. He must have other abilities hiding in his stats.
  13. S

So we got the sheets, let's calculate the crunch!!

The human has +1 to all saving throws from Human Perseverance, and what I'm guessing is +1 to his defences as well. The halfling seems to have some bonuses, but I can't see where it says he gets a bonus to saves.

    OK, I'm in ...

The could be true at higher levels, but I don't think it's true for the example DDXP characters we've seen. The fighter and ranger seem a good deal simpler in terms of powers than the paladin and wizard.

    Racial Abilities/Modifiers

I'm not sure, the Wizard has the Skill Training (Stealth) Feat, which would imply they only get three trained skills. The Ranger has six. I think there's more variation. The Rogue write-up mentioned Human bonus feats but no Human bonus skills. Also, the Human Cleric seems to have Fort: +1, Ref...

    Turn Undead

The news article on the front page has a link to good photos of all the character sheets. The Eladrin ranger has a longbow with 20 normal and 40 max range. Edit: the Eladrin also has two feats at 1st level. The Human does as well, but one is Human Perseverance (which gives +1 to saves, which...

2008 cover art and product descriptions

Dragonomicon 1 by Ari Marmell. Who's he? And by Bruce Cordell. I expect some of these dragons will have tentacles. I particularly like covers of the Tome of Treasures and the Manual of the Planes. Meet Mr Smiley.

    Action Points

One of the things I like about the 4e implementation of Action Points is that the name is literal. Action Points give you actions. As for how powerful they are, I remember 3.0 Haste... DM: "You see Villian Von Nasty" Player: "I hit him with my per-day Shatter the Kneecaps attack, and then...

    OK, I'm in ...

I've been in for a long time, so I'm looking from a different pov, but when I saw the character sheets my first reaction was "These look just like 3e characters." I didn't see that much change. A slight disappointment: at the moment, I'm not sure it will play that much differently.

Sooo, that's my players certain not to be subscribing to DDI...

The money wouldn't be a problem for me but it's literally the opportunity cost. I could be spending that money on ale and whores! I'm not interested in the Game Table or the Visualizer, so it has to be the quality of the online content. Frankly, I need to see a big improvement in that.
