    Battle Standards and Solitaire

I must be dim today I suddenly realized I missed something about the Solitaire - it's a Solitaire (Violet), and the limitation is "You cannot use more than one solitaire in an encounter." There are other solitaires in Adventurer's Vault.

    Battle Standards and Solitaire

Right: a lot of people seem to just see Divine Oracle's great synergies with a Wizard and then forget it's a leader paragon path. Prophecy of Doom is really a party buff. The wondrous item is part of what makes it so good: no item slots. It's a free action, per-encounter critical bonus! All...

Characters of War up at Wizards

Yeah, that bothered me a bit too. I think I would have been happy with simpler backgrounds: i) One for each skill that adds it to your class list Devout Upbringing: Add Religion to your class list. Shady Friends: Add Streetwise to your class list. Active: Add Athletics to your class list. The...

Characters of War up at Wizards

You don't get the skills, you add them to your class skill list. This is considerably weaker than skill training, that gives you the skill. It's roughly equivalent to Skill Focus IMO. Paragon Tier already has the Danger Sense feat: roll two dice for initiative and take the better of the two...

Weapon Balance - A Statistical Analysis

Great analysis, but I have to make one comment: This isn't true of the Str-based battle cleric. Of course, they end up using military or superior weapons they just have to pay a feat tax. Like Wizards end up with Leather Armour proficiency.

Characters of War up at Wizards

It is a bit creepy, but it's available for all PCs and it brings characters in line with FR regional benefits. I'd be happy if something like this was made standard in Player's Handbook 2, as long as it was balanced. I'm wary about those that give combat advantages; skills and languages, not...

    Battle Standards and Solitaire

I'm a bit puzzled about the Amethyst Band of Invisible Eyes though. Where do you trace line of effect from?

    Battle Standards and Solitaire

That's the thing I like a lot about the standards. They essentially create terrain that the party wants to defend.

Characters of War up at Wizards

The few articles for August Dungeon and Dragon mags are being posted, and with them is Characters of War, a selection of character backgrounds for the Scales of War series. I think these are similar to the regional backgrounds that Forgotten Realms has. I'm not so sure that they're as weak as...

    Battle Standards and Solitaire

New Adventures Vault previews. I like the Standards a lot, since they're not just powerful but the players will have to protect them once they're used. Solitaire seems pretty powerful. Very powerful when combined with expanded critical ranges or area powers. Pretty much a free action point...

Power level of At-will power from second class?

I think it will make multiclass characters more powerful, simply because it is the only way I can see to get a third at-will power outside of being a human; and humans will get a fourth at-will. If it was "Benefit: Swap one of your at-wills with an at-will from your second class" it would be...

    Martial Power push back?

The Martial Power product page now says November 2008 instead of October, so it looks like it's Wizards and not Amazon.

What impact would changing damage types have?

The splatbooks books will probably change everything: more powers, more feats, more paragon paths. Come mid-October I think the CO advice on martial characters will be a lot different.

What impact would changing damage types have?

It'll look a bit different when the new spells interact with existing feats. For instance, take Thunderball as a thunder based version of Scorching Burst. Once the player gets to paragon, Resounding Thunder gives them a Burst 2 at-will. If this worries you, you could change all the relevant...

    DMing Rescue at Rivenroar?

I'm about to start DMing Rescue at Rivenroar this Saturday, the first time I've run anything in about 5 years. If anyone here has already run R@R, have you any wisdom to impart?

Orb of Imposition Save modifier question

I think the nerf to Orb will be that the penalty to save applies for only one roll of a save. Then in effect it can be used to make sure that an enemy fails at least one save, which puts it on par with the Staff bonus to one defense and the Wand bonus to one attack. Instead of stun locking...

    Blast and Burst damage allies?

The rule is under "Target" on P57 of the PHB if you want a reference.

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

And after last night's game I've come to the conclusion that Shield is totally useless! Expeditious Retreat would have saved my bacon, Shield had me extra crispy.

Heroic Feats: where are the "gimmes"?

Pretty much all per-encounter healing at heroic levels use up healing surges. And from my experience so far (Kobold Hall and first 2/3 of KotS) I'd rather have more per-encounter healing than any of those daily powers, except perhaps Dimension Door. We run through our party's healing reservoir...
